Portable small BBQ indoor

I'm trying to figure out a way to BBQ small batches of steaks and sausages in charcoal indoor over over my hob. I have a 850cfm extraction fan, plus I have a mechanical ventilation across the whole house. I was thinking about using a stainless steel tray over some sort of insulation material over the hob. Not sure if anyone has tried something similar, just to make a couple of steaks and sausages. I crave the smoke/charcoal flavour.

Not sure the heat would be still to high by the time it goes through the exhaust fan above the hob to damage it.

Update 1

So after very strong feedback I'm giving up on the indoor idea, but it's still I would like to have something portable and long lasting so I can put outside, it can take a bit of rain and not decompose in one year down the line. And also could be taken to perhaps on a road trip to do something as well, so hence the reason I was thinking about a stainless steel tray with some sort of grill on top of it.

CF gave me a dead public IP from a completely different range at 4:37am, internet down for over 5 hours and support blamed my router again. Anyone else?

This is not the first time it happens to me and getting CF to fix it is always a pain, so I want to see if anyone else is going through the same.

My setup is the CF ONT straight into my own firewall (OPNsense), WAN on DHCP, same public IP for months without any issues.

What the firewall logs show from this morning:

  1. 04:37 CF DHCP gave me a new lease with a public IP from a completely different range, not just another address on my usual block, new gateway as well.
  2. 04:42 first failure reaching anything on the internet. From there nothing worked, the CF gateway on the new range was not responding to ping and nothing beyond it either.
  3. 07:56 and 08:28 I rebooted the firewall, same dead IP came back every time.
  4. 08:30 to 08:36 CF DHCP stopped answering at all, the firewall kept trying the old leases it had stored and none of them worked.
  5. 08:37 DHCP answered again with the same dead IP, still no traffic.
  6. Then I called support. As usual they said everything is fine on their side and the problem is because I'm using my own router. After a long time giving a lecture about networking to their support (a gateway not answering ping is not my router problem) they escalated to the network engineering team. Meanwhile I tethered my phone to keep the house online.
  7. 10:06 I plugged the fibre back, got a fresh lease on the same new IP and this time it worked, gateway 2ms, internet 3ms, no packet loss. So something was fixed on their side between 09:20 and 10:06, nobody told me anything and I'm still waiting for a call back to find out what it was.

So I guess they moved me to a new IP range that had no working route behind it for over 5 hours. Traceroute shows the same first hop CF router as my old range, so same box, new pool that was not routing.

Questions:

  1. Did anyone else get moved to a different range overnight and lost internet like this? Did you ever get an explanation from CF?
  2. Any tips to get past the first line support faster when it is clearly their side? A number or something to say that gets you straight to network engineering?
  3. Vodafone is now selling broadband on the CF network in London. Has anyone moved over? Specifically:
    • Is the IP and routing done by Vodafone's own network or is it still CF DHCP and routing underneath? If it is CF underneath I would have the same problem.
    • Can you use your own router?
    • Public IP or CGNAT?
    • Is the support any better?

I have now setup a 4G/5G backup line on the firewall with automatic failover, so next time the house should not even notice, but I would rather not need it. I had to use my mobile phone with a network adapter for this to work, vert clumsy.

Update 1:

CF called me back now. They said they just changed my public IP overnight, and to fix it they had to clear the MAC address cache on the NTE, after that it all worked. They could not tell me anything else about what the actual problem was, and they keep insisting part of the blame is on my side, without saying why.

So I guess when they moved me to the new range something on their side still had my MAC tied to the old IP, so DHCP worked but my traffic on the new IP was dropped until they cleared it. Happy to be corrected if anyone knows how CF does this.

Questions:

  1. Did anyone else get their IP changed overnight and lose internet like this? Did CF give you a better explanation?
  2. Has anyone had the "MAC address cache on the NTE" fix before? Is that something they can do remotely as soon as you ask, without the whole first line support routine?
  3. What could they mean by part of the blame being on my side, if nothing changed here? The only thing I can think of is my Proxmox host bridge showing its own MAC to the NTE besides the firewall MAC (IPv6 link-local), but that has been the case for months. Does CF limit how many MACs the NTE learns?

Bought a server license today. I just to thank the Immich development team and all the contributors

Immich allowed me to lower my dependence on Google services, plus I can watch my videos without compression as they were meant to be in a nice interface, with no lag, and that is from someone that paid for google storage. I'm very happy to not touch google storage ever again!

I love the fact that I was allowed to play around with the software, figure out all the kinks and then feel comfortable about contributing financially to the project. I wish all software was like this.

Amazing job, the software rocks! I wish all the success in the world for the team. I also use the Futo Keyboard and paid a license, another great software, great offline voice to text engine, I love it!

ah dammit I can't edit the topic thread, it was meant to read: I just want to thank the Immich development team and all the contributors. Should have used LLM for the post 🥸

Reddit app refreshing after a while and getting me out of a thread I was reading

is this morphe related or just the Reddit app that is crap? often I start reading something and leave it, a while later like 1 or 2 hours when I can resume reading the app forces a refresh and kicks me out of the thread back into my feed instead. super annoying and breaks my flow. is there anything I can do about it?

RedmiBook Pro 16 (2026 Edition) keyboard DOA

Just checking if anyone else got this laptop and had problems with the keyboard? I received mine today, opened it and the keyboard has nearly 1 second delay when typing, and when typing 70% of key presses are not registered.

This is not OS related because it happens even in the UEFI (BIOS).

I've already reset UEFI to factory, no luck.

2 ultrawides stacked for productivity primarily

I need 4 good working spaces for general research and coding, I've been using an old 34 inch ultrawide in the middle, and one 24 inch 1080p on each side of the ultrawide to give me 2 additional working spaces. It sort of works, but it is quite wide and I miss vertical space.

I was thinking about a 48 inch TV as that would give me 4x 24 inches spaces to work, but it sems they still today cannot do something with a standard RGB pixel for text clarity.

Last idea was to stack 2x 34 inch monitors so there are no bezels between left/right when splitting them into 2 working spaces, but not sure if there is a good way to stack them, or if that would be too "square" compare to my previous idea with a single 48 inch TV.

I used to game a fair bit, not so much now but I want to have the option. 120hz for productivity is a must for me, I hate anything bellow 120hz, even when working on a laptop, everything is 120hz for productivity.

Not sure if stacking is a good idea, if anyone has tried, or maybe I just stick to what I have, it sort of works, sort of cheap, but it is too wide.

Edit1: I think what I'm after is something that does not exist, a 48 inch, 8K, 800R, 16:9/16:10, OLED, 120hz+. that would give me a shit load of real state to subdivide and work like I was in the matrix and turn myself into agent smith.

Edit2: I'm now considering a 32 inch 4k in the middle and maybe 3x 24 inches on left, right and top of the 32 inches as additional space with lower specs. This way I reduce a bit the width of my current set up, and have a bit more vertical space which is what I think would make most difference. I would have more vertical space from the 32 inch 4k, and the 24 inch on top of it.

Edit3: I just flipped my 2 side monitors to portrait to test, and it is MUCH better, much less width, and more vertical space, I can "see" more without having to turn my head and body left/right to see the whole monitor. I just need to tilt my head up and down a bit, still much better than the excess of width from before. With this now tested, I think a 32 inch 16:9 4k in the middle would make more sense, with perhaps 2x 27 in portrait on each side with higher resolution than the 24 inches, but not 4k as from what I've read, 27 inches at 4k would normally need to be at 125% dpi, so better get something in between 1080p and 4k.

Defining what can or cannot be done for a customer

I've been thinking about creating ticket categories and sub level categories as a way to tell if we can, or cannot do certain work for a customer. That means controlling permissions allowing only certain categories to be assigned to specific customers. Is that a good approach or feasible approach to maintain long term?

The other method I was thinking is to create a dynamic SQL lookup, so we define for each customer what we don't do out of our whole list of categories, then show a notification on the ticket stating if that work can or cannot be done for a specific customer.

I'm not sure which approach works best, or if there are better ways to manage this than these 2 methods.

The end goal is to allow a tech to know in a few seconds what works is allowed for each customer, based on the ticket category. Let's say a category like Client Apps > Sage 50 can be supported for customer A, but Network > Switches cannot be supported for customer A.

pre-inspection service for second hand tesla

Has anyone tried a pre-inspection service before buying a second-hand car to spot common problems like suspension, bushes, body work repair, etc... I'm after a model y and I'm a bit wary a couple of car dealers I spoke to were not very forward with details about the car, and one of them that I placed a deposit was very difficult to get any details to the point I decided to drop it.

It is my first time buying second hand car, it feels like there are lots of cowboys out there.

Model Y and 3 children's seats at the back

I'm moving from a Mercedes CLA with a Multimac to a Model Y that I'm thinking about using regular boosters and other combinations of seats for my 3, 5 and 7 year olds. The multimac was the only way I could fit 3 in the CLA, and it was already on its 3rd life or more, with the seatbelts becoming quite difficult to adjust due, plus it is heavy as hell, pure steel. I bought is 2nd hand on gumtree, so I think it is already doing overtime now.

I'm more inclined to use regular seats now as there will be a lot more space, plus the oldest in theory should be fine with a booster (I think) and be able to sit more comfortably.

Has anyone got experience mixing 3 seats at the back? My kids are on a bigger side of the scale, so they are more like 4, 6 and 8 years old size wise.

Thanks!

Model Y second hand, how to find one with EAP or FSD?

I've been looking at autotrader, piston heads and other websites, but either no Model Y on second hand market has EAP or FSD, or do they all forget to mention it? I'm confused! I'm after one with EAP, but all 100+ listings I checked manually, none had it. Am I being thick?

Cyber Essentials v3.3 / Danzell (UK) and separate admin account requirement

I'm trying to figure out a way to not need to use separate accounts for administrative tasks, and instead use elevation with Entra ID PIM, so the user requesting it needs to confirm identify with a security key, and the person allowing that elevation needs to also verify with a security key every time. Both machines also need to be Entra ID registered, and fully compliant in Intune.

Cyber Essentials v3.3 / Danzell (new version from 26th of April 2026) requires anyone that can request administrative roles to use a separate account. To me that sounds a step backwards like when passwords were required to be changed every 90 days, just so people started writing them down and sticking to their monitor edges.

I'm interested in what you guys think about this, as to me, it sounds more like a hassle that does not add tangible benefits over a properly configured conditional access policy to manage PIM requests and authorisation.
