Microfreak owners - two questions

Would you describe it as a "happy accident machine"?

And could you please rate the speed by which you can generate interesting results out of 10?

The pink Wildside "bitch" glasses from Portlandia

Probably made by the prop department. But is there anything out there like this?

Any ways to 'thin out' a bus without losing low-mid character?

I have some drums that have some nice content from 200-500Hz. I want to make these drums a bit thinner but EQ feels too heavy-handed for this task.

Is there any method other than EQ that would be appropriate for this? A tape emulation with under-bias might achieve it, but that would mess with the transients.

Local roaster, subscription, or ALDI beans for everyday? (SE Melbourne)

Only ever used ALDI beans, but wondering if I could branch out for a similar price?

  • I liked the Lazzio dark beans but buying a 1kg bag was a mistake as it took me too long to get through it.
  • Currently I'm using the 250g Lazzio organic beans, which are also fine.
  • As you can tell I don't exactly have a refined palate!
  • I hand grind 1 serve of beans to use in a moka pot each morning.

Also if anyone can recommend some Vietnamese beans that would be much appreciated! I have some bags of preground Trung Nguyen but wondering if I can get whole Vietnamese beans instead.

[0 YoE, Unemployed, Target Role: Case Management/Compliance/Tech Support, Australia]

Two resumes: first one is more Case Resolution/Compliance, second is more technical.

Seeking help as I'm not getting interviews. I have no idea about this ATS stuff. I used Gemini to help me but all the wording is my own.

  • Trying to close my employment gap. Not desperate yet but starting to feel the pressure.
  • Been applying for roles like Compliance Officer, Support Technician, Dispute Resolution Officer. Using the appropriate resume depending on the job.
  • My ideal job is something that combines technical and soft skills. I understand that might sound a bit vague but I'm trying to stay open to a multitude of roles.
  • I tried hard to make my patchy employment + education history look not so bad. 15 applications so far with either rejections or no response (I know I need to get that number up!).
  • Applying for jobs in Melbourne, AUS. Open to remote but have only been applying for local jobs for now.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Any good videos to learn how to trim properly? At the moment I'm just winging it and it shows.

Going for kind of a chevron-esque thing but I keep messing it up every time I trim.

I use sharp scissors freehand. Never understood the comb method.

X1 Carbon Gen 9 - safeguarding against hardware issues

Just bought my first Thinkpad. $799 AUD with 32GB RAM.

Unfortunately I didn't know about the design flaws before purchasing. The laptop is not eligible for extended warranty, so now I'm left wondering what I can do to safeguard this machine as much as possible.

Here's what I've done so far:

  • Confirmed all ports currently work
  • Ran updates via Vantage
  • Installed the Intel Retimer firmware update
  • Set charging threshold to 85% max

My questions:

  • Are there any other things I can change (Perhaps in Vantage, or the BIOS?) to help with this machine's longevity?
  • Should I apply new thermal pads/paste? I plan to swap out the SSD soon anyway.
  • Should I keep an eye out for any replacement parts now, even if I don't need them immediately?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Downgrading to 3rd party car insurance makes no sense?

Edit: seems to be a mix of location and broad insurance market price movements.

I've heard advice to not bother with comprehensive once the annual premium goes over 10% of the car's value. Is that advice outdated now?

I drive a 2008 Mazda 6 which I plan to drive into the ground. I was looking at downgrading my comprehensive insurance to 3rd party. However I would barely save anything by doing that.

Here's the numbers:

  • Current Comprehensive: $713/year
    • Agreed value: $5,000 (Premium is 14% of the car's value!)
    • Excess: $1,300
    • Net payout: $3,700 ($5,000-$1,300) if I write it off.
  • Third Party Only Quote: $586/year
    • I know this still covers me for millions in potential liability, but the difference of $127 seems quite small

So I save $127 a year, but I'm risking that $3700 net payout. Hardly worth it, right?

C.V. & cover letter rewriting services

Been out of work for quite a while, trying to get back in after gaining an IT cert.

I feel that my resume and cover letters are quite well written, but maybe I don't understand the language hiring managers want to see in 2026?

Has anyone here paid for a service that reviews your C.V. and cover letter, makes recommendations, and/or rewrites them for you? How did it go? Was it worthwhile?

Thanks
