30 pounds down & switching to maintenance
Pics from left to right: aug 2025, aug 2026 comparison, before pic, before pic, after pics
Unfortunately lost a ton of data when my phone broke recently so I don’t have my formal starting pics anymore : ((
160->130 over a year
Hey all! I (23F, 5’1), have always weighed anywhere from 160-175. Constantly overweight/obese BMI since childhood. I was very self conscious of my weight, especially as an active person. I didn’t feel like any of the strangers I met believed I was an avid biker/hiker/runner/climber. I always felt I was undisciplined and just “not trying hard enough”. Teenage years were spent crash dieting then binging.
This year I got on noom, started strength training for the first time, and focused deeply on sustainability. Took a lot of maintenance breaks, focused mainly on increased protein/fiber and especially veggie intake.
Lifted heavy till failure, walked lots, biked tons and started running again.
Now, I’ve hit a weird point. 130 wasn’t as lean as I thought it was going to be, and I still feel bigger than all my friends. When I hit my goal my first thought was that I should lose more. I’ve always had this idea that I’d love my body more the more I lost. I’ve realized now this is definitely not the case. I had a real conversation with myself these past weeks around what I am actually trying to achieve. Is it for me anymore or is it external social pressure? I am healthy, active, great energy, iron levels are normal when im always anemic, my BMI is now normal, I can lift heavy do plenty of pull ups/pushups etc… and yet going into maintenance feels like im giving up. I still feel society’s influence to be smaller and leaner, but I’m trying very hard to fight against it.
I’m posting both to celebrate my accomplishment (because I’ve found it hard not to undermine the work I’ve done as not “being enough”) and to see if anyone else is struggling with the mental game of maintenance. I feel like weight loss felt productive, like every day I was moving forward, and now without it I feel like I’m in a weird standstill. Time to focus on enjoying life in other ways I guess! I’m training for a race and that has been a very fulfilling outlet during this transition luckily.
Thanks for listening!
EDIT: I have a long term boyfriend so random dudes please stop messaging me. I am not interested and you are only embarrassing yourself by hitting up random women on Reddit unsolicited.
