​I single-handedly built a dedicated marketplace sub for our city to fix a massive local headache: r/AllahabadBazaar.

​My absolute inspiration for this was r/delhi_marketplace. If you’ve seen how clean, organized, and useful that sub is for students, that is exactly what I am trying to build for us here.

​As AU students, trying to clear out old semester textbooks, coaching modules, room coolers, or cycles before moving out is a total pain. The main city feeds get flooded, and trying your luck on OLX or random Facebook groups means dealing with annoying local brokers or sketchy scammers.

​I created r/AllahabadBazaar to keep things strictly student-friendly, peer-to-peer, and actually safe.

​🛡️ What’s the vibe there?

​Zero Clutter: Mandatory flairs like [WTS] Want to Sell, [WTB] Want to Buy, and Accommodation/PG so you can find stuff instantly without scrolling through endless spam.

​Scammer-Proof: Just like the Delhi sub, high-value stuff requires a handwritten note with your Reddit username and today's date in the photo.

​Strictly Direct: No third-party brokers eating up commissions on flats/PGs. Just direct talk.

​I wanted to share a new sub a few of us just set up to fix a massive local headache: r/AllahabadBazaar.

​Right now, if you want to get rid of old semester textbooks, cycles, lab coats, room coolers, or random hostel gym gear before graduating or if you are looking for a decent PG/flatmate outside campus it is a total pain. The main city subs get super cluttered, and platforms like OLX or random Facebook groups are just full of sketchy scammers and annoying brokers.

​We created r/AllahabadBazaar to keep things clean, strictly peer-to-peer, and actually safe for students.

​🛡️ What we are doing differently:

​Clean Filters: Separate tags for [WTS] Want to Sell, [WTB] Want to Buy, Accommodation/PG, and Books & Study Material so you can find stuff instantly without scrolling through endless spam.

​Anti-Scam Check: For high-value stuff, we require a handwritten note with your username and date in the photo so random fake profiles cannot scam anyone.

​No Broker B.S.: Strictly student-to-student and local-to-local so nobody is paying random commissions.

​The main r/Allahabad mod team is already backing us to help clean up the city feed. Whether you have some old modules/books to clear out of your room, want to sell your hostel setup, or just want to keep an eye out for cheap local deals, join the sub and drop a post!

Let’s be real… almost everyone in Allahabad is searching for SOMETHING right now 😭

“Need a PG near college”

“Koi cheap NEET/JEE etc books bech raha?”

“Flatmate urgently chahiye”

“Anyone selling a cycle/laptop/gym equipment?”

“Hostel shift kar raha hu, stuff nikalna hai”

“Second-hand furniture mil jaaye bas”

''semester end khtm hone se pehle kch paise kama leta hu"

But these posts usually disappear in the main sub after a few hours and then everyone posts the SAME thing again 😭

So with permission from the mods, we just started:

💻 Electronics & gadgets

And honestly if enough local people join early, this could become REALLY useful for all of us 👀

Because imagine having one active place where:

- students can quickly find books

- hostel people can sell stuff before leaving

- people can find flatmates without broker drama

- random useful posts don’t get buried anymore

We’re also trying to keep it safer than the usual OLX chaos with:

(OLX is so scammy we all know it)

✅ Anti-scam rules

✅ Active moderation

The sub is completely NEW right now, so the earlier people start posting/joining, the faster it actually becomes useful for everyone here ❤️
