On tonight’s Midnight Walk, we’ll be strolling through the area around Tsukiji Outer Market.

In 1935, the Tsukiji Fish Market officially opened for business.

For many decades, it remained a beloved and iconic part of this neighborhood.

However, in 2018, the market was relocated to Toyosu due to the aging of its facilities.

The Tsukiji Outer Market, which grew and prospered alongside the fish market, continues to operate here even after the relocation.

The Outer Market is a vast shopping district that is open not only to professional buyers and wholesalers, but also to everyday shoppers and visitors from around the world.

Over the years, numerous restaurants and eateries have sprung up in the surrounding area to support the professional traders who worked here.

As times changed, the district gradually transformed into a major tourist destination, attracting visitors from across the globe.

Today, it stands as one of Tokyo’s most vibrant and popular attractions.

In this place, filled with history and energy, let’s begin tonight’s Midnight Walk together.

On tonight's midnight stroll,

I’ll be walking through Hirai in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo.

Hirai is an area surrounded by the Kyu-Naka and Arakawa Rivers

on three sides, except to the south.

A residential neighborhood stretches across the area.

Along the Kyu-Naka River, there's a research institute for Lion,

a major Japanese consumer goods manufacturer.

In addition, manufacturing factories of various sizes

are scattered throughout.

In tonight's video, I'll take a midnight walk

through Hirai—a town with a nicely secluded vibe.

In tonight’s midnight walk, I’ll take a leisurely stroll through Nakai in Shinjuku City, Tokyo. Nakai at midnight has a wonderfully calm and relaxed atmosphere. Nakai is an area situated between Sakaue-dori Street to the north and the Myoshoji River to the south. The terrain slopes downward from Sakaue-dori toward the river, making it a neighborhood known for its many hills and slopes. There are eight numbered slopes, ranging from “Ichinonzaka Street” (First Slope Street) to “Hachinonzaka Street” (Eighth Slope Street), but there are also many other hills throughout the area. In tonight’s video, I’ll be walking up and down Nakai’s slopes as much as possible, exploring this unique landscape in depth. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy another peaceful midnight walk with us tonight.

in Ikebukuro-Honcho and takes us to Kumano-cho in Itabashi City.

Along the way, we stop by a park where you can watch trains pass by,

and make a few detours to visit several local shrines.

At one point, I come across a massive group of koinobori

(carp streamers) swimming through the night sky.

And finally, we pay a visit to the “Golden Shaka Nyorai Statue” of Kumano-cho,

said to be one of the most brilliantly shining sights in Tokyo.

This midnight walk begins at Gokokuji Temple in Otsuka, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo.

Gokokuji Temple was founded in 1681 (the first year of the Tenna era) by the fifth shogun,

Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, in accordance with the wishes of his birth mother, Keishōin.

On land that once served as a medicinal herb garden for the shogunate,

the priest Ryōken was invited to establish a temple hall,

and the principal image was the “Natural Amber Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu,” closely associated with Keishōin.

In this video, I will explore Gokokuji Temple and nearby shrines,

and also take a look at the massive Gokokuji-Nishi Intersection.
