Basically, using whatever information Wikipedia had on elections from 1788 to 1790, this map is constructed. The first few elections we had were frequently undemocratic, and those with a popular vote still tended to have crazy margins of victory or multiple candidates from the same faction running for the same seat. Primaries? Runoffs? What are those? The GOAT George Washington shielded our eyes from such ridiculousness. Beginning of a series covering the average partisanship of US states over every decade of our existence.
