Removing Windows for Linux on Lenovo LOQ — anyone else dealt with warranty concerns?

Hey everyone,

I got my Lenovo LOQ (i7-13645HX, RTX 4050, 16GB RAM) about two weeks ago. I'm a cybersecurity student and I've been running Kali Linux in VirtualBox so far, but I've decided I want to wipe Windows completely and run Linux as my primary OS. I'm just done with Windows at this point.

Before I do it, I wanted to check — has anyone here fully removed Windows from an LOQ and gone Linux-only? From what I've read on Lenovo's own forums, installing Linux doesn't void the hardware warranty (they only care if something's physically damaged inside), but Lenovo obviously won't support Linux-specific issues. Just want to hear real experiences: any driver headaches (Nvidia RTX 4050, Wi-Fi, etc.), dual GPU switching problems, or anything I should back up/prep before wiping Windows?

Lenovo wants my 170W charger back before I can keep the new 230W charger—is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I have a Lenovo LOQ with an Intel i7-13650HX and RTX 4050. I noticed that my battery was slowly draining even while the charger was plugged in during normal use.

I contacted Lenovo Support, and they agreed to replace my 170W adapter with a 230W adapter.

However, they clearly told me that I must return my old 170W charger. If I don't return it, they won't let me keep the new 230W adapter.

I searched this subreddit and found some older posts where people said they ended up with both the 170W and 230W chargers, so I'm wondering if the policy has changed or if it depends on the region.

Has anyone recently gone through the same replacement process? Were you required to return your old charger, or were you allowed to keep both?

Thanks!

New LOQ owner — Conservation Mode daily while plugged in. Good idea? Battery tips needed!

Hey everyone! Just got my Lenovo LOQ (i7-13645HX, RTX 4050 6GB, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, 144Hz IPS) last Tuesday and I'm really enjoying it so far.

But one thing hit me pretty quick — the battery life is rough. I need my laptop for 6+ hours a day and it barely lasted 2 hours unplugged. Not great for a daily driver.

**What I'm currently doing:**

- Enabled Conservation Mode in Lenovo Vantage (caps charge at ~60%)

- Keep it plugged in all day during use

- This way the battery doesn't cycle — power comes straight from the adapter

- When I need to go cordless, I switch to Normal Mode, charge to 100%, and use it on battery

My thinking is that keeping it at 60% long term is better for battery health and since I'm always near a outlet anyway, this just makes sense for me.

**My questions for you guys:**

  1. Is it okay to run Conservation Mode like this daily with the laptop always plugged in?

  2. Does it really avoid battery cycles when plugged in at 60%?

  3. Any other battery tips or settings I should know about for the LOQ?

  4. How are you guys managing battery on your LOQ?

Would love to hear from experienced LOQ users! 🔋

Laptop Price Increased Before I Could Buy It – Should I Wait for a Sale?

I was planning to buy a laptop for my studies, cybersecurity learning, running VMs, and some gaming. Unfortunately, the laptop I was targeting has gone up in price recently. A few weeks/months ago the price was much lower and within my budget, but now I simply can't afford it.

I'm a student, so every rupee matters. Paying the current price feels painful when I know it was available for much less before.

For those who follow laptop prices regularly:

\- Do laptop prices usually drop again during sales?

\- Are there any upcoming sales or deals worth waiting for?

\- How long does it usually take for prices to come back down?

\- Would you wait for a discount or just buy at the current higher price?

I'm not in an emergency, but I do need a laptop for cybersecurity labs, virtual machines, programming, and some gaming.

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!
