371***** OUT
My account has some context, but anyways I did put in my two weeks a couple days ago. I already have a slightly lower-paying but lower-stress job lined up, and I’m interviewing for two lower-stress higher-same pay jobs later this week.
I’m genuinely so excited, as someone who’s worked at three cafes, to be leaving after a year and some change. Genuinely, while a good SM ca make a good store, the bad times have always outweighed the good times for me.
There’s always these fights between the dayparts, interpersonal drama that is genuinely so stupid but ends up pulling everyone in, and this company will abuse you if you give them even a little bit of effort. I’ve watched baristas hired after burnout so fast because they’d say yes to getting extra tasks once and be expected to do it everyday afterwards.
Upper management (DM+) and most SMs are also so, so two-faced. They’ll say one thing to you face, then a partner at another store you cover will be like “sooo… have you heard about xyz”.
My main store for the first while was so good and chill with a good team, though there were still problems, but it genuinely made me happy to be there. Plus the customers didn’t suck, everyone communicated, the SM is one of the silliest guys ever, and the store culture acted like a unionized store even without being one.
On that note, fuck this union busting bs company
One tip I can give for new baristas: don’t ever, and I mean ever let yourself stress out over this job. Genuinely, do the minimum you can do to get by. It’s not worth it to have a good work ethic.
I will miss my SSV pay and most of my team, but I’m sure no other job is going to make my depression get as bad as this one has.
Excited for new adventures, excited to call out my last two weeks and finally use my 60 hours of left PTO (sorry other SSVs, someone’s gonna have to close lol…), and excited to not be working 7 days a week
