Hisense Portable AC (hose to window) keeps turning off by itself after draining E5 error – did I mess something up?

Hey everyone,

I have a Hisense portable AC with the exhaust hose that goes out the window (not sure of the exact model). About 2 weeks ago the display on top started showing “E5” instead of the temperature. I Googled it and it said to drain the unit because the water container was full.

I unscrewed the drain plug on the back with a screwdriver, drained a bunch of water into a bowl (there was definitely water sitting at the bottom inside), made sure it was all out, screwed everything back in place, and double-checked that all parts were secure.

After that, I turned it back on and now it keeps turning off by itself after a short time. The thermostat/display acts weird (“tweaking”) and it just shuts down. This never happened before I drained it.

A couple other things:
• I left the back filter off thinking it would help with airflow (“cooling system wide open”).
• No other error codes showing now, just random shutoffs.

Did I do the draining process wrong? Could the float switch/sensor be stuck? Is leaving the filter off making it worse (maybe causing overheating or bad readings)? Or did draining it somehow cause a different issue?

Any troubleshooting tips, common fixes for this, or things I should try would be really appreciated. I’m in an apartment in a hot area and this thing was working great until now.

Thanks in advance!

Side note: It will beep twice before turning off. Right now it’s running fine but in about 10 more minutes.. never mind as I’m typing this out it turned off again.

Lost my state ID twice and now I’m stressing a bit.

I originally cracked my ID, got a replacement, then lost that replacement. I later realized I still had the cracked one and could technically use it—but now that one is gone too, so I’m pretty sure I lost both outside somewhere.

My full name, address, DOB, and ID number are obviously on it, so I’m worried about identity theft. I already froze my credit.

My question is: is it possible to get a new ID number when replacing it, and would that even help in this situation? Or should I just replace it normally and not worry too much?

Honestly just wanna kill myself after all of this
