And contrary to what some of the shills over at r/Amhara might tell you, the vast majority of the Amhara people view TPLF with great suspicion and are not in fact “fano” supporters.

It has gotten to a point where the TPLF is being openly criticized as a destabilizing force within the Horn, something unthinkable just a few years ago.

I remember during the Tigray war, a great panic set in amongst the Tigrayan elite, and many a wealthy Tegaru fled the country with large volumes of capital. There was a sense that Ethiopia was no longer safe for them to do business in (a macabre TPLF narrative). Yet, as time passed, it became more and more clear that the Tegaru elite that stayed benefited enormously from Ethiopia’s quickly expanding market base.

This, coupled with news that even Tegaru businessmen that migrated from Tigray to Addis have started enjoying the benefits of the Ethiopian economy is convincing the Tegaru Business Elite that allying with TPLF is bad for business. As a matter of fact, even personal friends and old acquaintances who had fled with capital are now moving slowly back into the economy.

Add to this the fact that anyone and everyone who is sitting on large capital right now is eagerly awaiting Ethiopia’s full economic liberalization and integration with global capital markets, and it looks more and mores like TPLF can no longer count on Tigrayan Economic Elites.
