Who else wrote their research proposal on something they initially didn’t know much (or anything) about and received the award?
Hi there! Just curious (above). I became very interested in this tiny sub field of my broad research field after talking about it with a potential PI. I then spend a long time reading papers, coming up with very novel ideas and synthesizing my proposal and then I was awarded as a post bacc (graduated with my BS, but hadn’t started my grad school yet and had yet to be accepted anywhere).
Anyone else? I would love to hear your stories!
p.s: I ended up being recruited for the same lab I lightly based my research proposal off of (a DREAM come true).
For everyone wondering what classifies a "Reputable Piercing Shop", it usually is shops that are APP members. This stands for Association of Professional Piercers.
This organization holds all shops that are members to the highest piercing standards and techniques.
Please only get pierced at shops with this membership. When you go to one of these shops, you can trust they are using the correct type of implant grade jewelry and won't mess up your piercing (of course within the limitation of being human and making mistakes).
safepiercing.org is the website where you can locate an APP shop in your area.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Hi everyone.
For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with severe skin picking. It has greatly disrupted my work, my sleep, and some of my relationships.
I have tried nearly everything: gloves, taping my fingers, sheer will power, wearing clothing that covers my skin so I won’t pick it at, therapy, medications, etc.
In the last year, I have found tools that work for minimizing picking when I am in bed trying to fall asleep (I use really thin, breathable gloves), and recently was on a Google deep dive of finding a tool for day time as well.
I am starting a PhD in the fall and I knew my skin picking would be a huge issue when I am trying to work. When I was searching Google, I was looking for thin, stretchy, seamless, phone compatible finger socks. However, I did not find many options at all.
Then I came across an Etsy seller called DigitSock. They sell what seemed like exactly what I was looking for. I ordered some to try them out, but with past experiences of brands making false promises about quality and construction, I was trying to not get my hopes up too much.
they just came in and omg. These are the tool I have been looking for my entire life to help with my daytime skin picking.
I also have sensory issues, making some of the other methods I have tried nearly impossible to deal with because of the discomfort I have felt wearing them or the inconvenience of applying them.
These finger socks are made with all of that in mind and more. They are soft, stretchy, thinly knit with minimal seams, and they fit snuggly so I don’t have to keep adjusting them. All of these factors make them insanely comfortable to wear.
The seller is also extremely kind and has obviously put so much thought and love into making these.
I am not being paid to say any of this btw. I just think this tool would help almost everyone in this sub Reddit. The link for them is below!
