What are LA parents doing with their babies this summer?

Hi all, summer has been brutal with the heat and added humidity. What are LA parents of babies under 6 months doing this summer? We're in the central part of the city, and our baby is currently about 4.5 months. I'm struggling with ideas of what to do during the day because babies this young aren't supposed to be exposed to harsh sunlight, and it isn't recommended to use sunblock on them yet. We're in central LA, wondering where I can take my baby during weekdays. We do walks after 6PM but have been limiting daytime outings. I'm the primary carer and still on leave for another month or so. Any shaded areas in the city for a nice stroll? Any and all tips and recommendations would be appreciated, thank you!

Itinerary Help with Vancouver/Victoria

Hi all, thank you to everyone in my last post who helped me choose between traveling to Banff/Canmore or Vancouver/Victoria with my baby and my mom this fall. I have flights booked from LAX to YVR October 14 - 21.

We will be arriving at YVR around 3PM (3 hour flight) on Wednesday 10/14, and I'm wondering if I should book the ferry to Victoria for that evening or spend the night in Richmond/Steveston* and then take the ferry the next morning? We'll be renting a car at YVR right after we land.

This is my first time traveling with my baby (who will be 6 months-old in October) so I'm not sure if it'll be too much time in transit for one day. I'm thinking to return to Vancouver on 10/17, Saturday afternoon. Will two nights in Victoria give us enough time to see Butchart Gardens, stroll around the harbor area, stop by Parliament building, grab a meal in Chinatown, and check out a couple scenic areas? Will three nights be better? I'm craving some fall foliage! I'd like to keep the pace somewhat leisurely since my mom has mild mobility issues and we might be pushing a stroller (or have baby in a carrier).

Any and all recommendations and feedback will be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Attn Parents: Banff/Canmore vs Vancouver with a Baby?

[EDIT] Thank you all for taking the time to comment! We decided to cancel Banff and will be heading to Vancouver + Victoria in October instead.

Hi all! My husband, my mom (late 60s), baby, and I are planning to take a 5-6 day trip this fall during the last couple weeks of my maternity leave (husband also has 2 weeks left of paid leave). We're from the LA area. Baby is currently 3.5 months, will be 5.5 months in late Sept and 6 months in early October.

We already booked flights to Calgary for a trip to Canmore/Banff for late September in order to see the yellow larches and to avoid snow - husband is adamant about avoiding snow for this trip. He *hates* car rides on snowy/icy roads. But I'm concerned about recent news regarding increasing cases of measles in SoCal, specifically infected passengers going through LAX.

If we delay our travel to mid-October, then my baby would be able to get an early MMR booster and build a little immunity. But by then, attractions like Lake Moraine will be closed, and there might be snow on the roads.

We could pivot and change flights to go to Vancouver in October. I've been to Van 5+ times it's nothing exciting for me, but I feel like my mom would enjoy it, and there are some attractions for our baby too. But Delta has no direct flights from LA to Vancouver so we'd have layovers each way, adding more time to travel (and more airports to navigate with a baby).

Keep our original booking? Go to Vancouver instead? Cancel everything altogether and wait until baby is older? We would have to use the flight credits within a year of the purchase date since they weren't refundable tickets.

Thank you for reading all this. Any/all advice would be welcome!
