Is it worth it to try an UL to catch bass at a lake or am I just asking for snapped rods and lines?

Got my first ultra light set up. A 5.5 ft shimano solara with a shimano sienna 1000 for river fishing.

All for 50$ at walmart.

How’d I do?

Saw some monster carp swimming below me on a lake pier and they had no interest in anything I dangled in front of them (senkos, craws, worms, etc). Most of my stuff was set up for bass but any advice on how I could have adjusted?
