My Favorite Thai Dessert: Khao Lam (ข้าวหลาม)

Many Thai desserts happen to be vegan. My favorite is khao lam (ข้าวหลาม) which is sticky rice mixed with palm sugar, coconut cream, and black beans. It’s then placed in a hollow bamboo pole and slowly roasted over hot coals.

Have you tried khao lam or any Thai desserts?

Unwanted Animals Find Sanctuary at Thai Buddhist Temples

I wrote an article about how unwanted animals are dumped at the temples in Thailand. It's normal to see lots of dogs, cats, and chickens roaming around. The monks feed them. Since they won't harm the chickens, it's a sanctuary for them.

Does anyone know what the monks do with the chickens at the temple? Taken at Wat Hua Hin

I assume the monks just feed them and can't kill them, right? Do people drop off the chickens at the temple the way they drop off unwanted cats and dogs?

Kui Buri – Where the Wild still roams

A great article about the successful conservation efforts at Kui Buri National Park. This is one of the best places in Thailand to see wild elephants and other wild animals

Fireworks Traumatize & Kill Animals - They need to be banned worldwide!

Since the 4th of July is tomorrow, I thought it was important to remind people how awful fireworks are for animals. Millions of birds are negatively affected by them and about 63% of cats and dogs are also affected.

฿50 ($1.55) Vegan Boat Noodles from Ruean Thong Vegetarian in Hua Hin, Thailand

This is one of my favorite Thai soups. It has a variety of textures from the crunchy and chewy vegan protein (TVP, vegan no pork balls, and soy meat), soft rice noodles, and crispy fresh veggies. There is a strong umami flavor with a mix of slightly sweet, spicy, and sour flavors.

They're called boat noodles because boat vendors used to sell this soup along the canals. It's cheap, flavorful, delicious, and comforting.

Have you tried this soup before?
