Root user MFA failing.

In case it matters to this question - this is a small, single user account. The majority of my AWS spend is domain registry costs, a couple of lambdas, dynamodb and some R53. That's about it. Average monthly spend is around $10.

I use a password manager (1Password in this case).

I have my root account separate from the main admin-level account I use day-to-day. Haven't needed to login to root account for a long time.

I have no problem logging into my admin account (IAM), which of course also has 2FA, and I use 1Password to store the credentials. Sign-in works.

I wanted to make some account/organizational changes, so I attempted to login to my root user. User & password accepted, but keep failing on MFA.

I'm not signed up for any support plan, so not sure how to proceed here.

Caution:lovecoffeelife.com

Few days ago, I was on the site https://www.lovecoffeelife.com/ because they claimed to have something I wanted in stock.

Went through the purchasing process - but couldn't get to any sort of confirmation page. Just some sort of error that really made no sense, so I just gave up.

Fortunately I ordered using one of my virtual credit cards (shout out to privacy.com). I use these virtual cards for most of my online purchasing.

Now, a few days later, I am getting multiple attempts to use that same virtual card. I have closed the card, and I'm not really out of pocket.

So, just sharing this experience as a word of caution...

Attempted transactions on my virtual card.

Gaggia Accademia - replacement carafe.

Looking to replace the milk carafe (the top part, anyway) on my 14 month old Gaggia Accademia.

Can find it in stock anywhere (I'm in CA, USA). It's this part.

If I need to buy the whole carafe, so be it.

Upgrade inverter & add batteries?

My system has been live for almost 10 years. I'm in Northern CA. I am unfortunately tied to PG&E, and on NEM2.

On a normal, cloud-free, summer day, I am generating around 45-48kWh per day.

I would like to update my inverter (Sunny Boy 7000TL-US-22), and install some batteries.

Some questions:

  1. Can I do it myself?
  2. Can I do it without involving either PG&E or local authorities (permitting)?
  3. Can I add batteries without effecting my NEM2 status?

I don't want a full off-grid setup, since when we are away, I want to be sending the max amount TO the grid and sticking it to PG&E in any way I can.

I would also like to have the ability to possibly add some ground-mount panels (roof is full) to the system.

I know I could go through an installer, but those that I have spoken to are asking tens of thousands of $$$ for a couple of batteries. Many simply try and push me to a PPA, rather than a self-owned system. We own our system 100% - no loan balance.

Can't add new AppleTV if account has security keys enabled.

FFS. I have just spent the last hour going around in circles trying to add a new AppleTV (latest gen) to my account.

Thought it was an issue with my iPhone, or something else.

It took me far too long to figure out that it was complaining about the YubiKey(s) on my AppleID account, and not something else...

FFS.

Unifi App issues

Using the Unifi App on mobile.

The app asks me to login via UI.com, so I do.

Most of the time it fails on my 2FA. Then I get this.

Anyone else seen this one?

If I press in the right location(s), the app is fully functional. And it will show all my device/network details.

Stucco crack repair

I have some significant cracks developing in my house's exterior (south-facing, if that matters).

I am located in Northern CA - so for the next 5 - 6 months it's going to be hot an dry here.

Is it ok to fill these cracks with caulk, and then paint?

If so, does some one have a recommendation for a particular brand or type of caulk?

I have an odd situation occurring with the connection between my "USW Pro Max 24 PoE" switch and my "USW Pro XG 8 PoE". They are connected via Cat6 cable - about 75'.

Plugged into the XG are my NAS, and AppleTV.

Most of the time everything just works.

But, every now and then, while watching a streaming service, the stream will just freeze. I also observe that the etherlighting on the upstream port on the XG will stop pulsing.

The fix? I just unplug the upstream cable, plug it into another port and within a few seconds the stream will recover, and the etherlighting "pulsing" will resume.

I am not seeing any errors logged, just this:

CEF:0|Ubiquiti|UniFi Network|10.3.58|512|Device Offline|8|UNIFIcategory=UniFi Devices UNIFIhost=UDM-Office UNIFIdeviceMac=1c:0b:8b:0a:03:3f UNIFIdeviceName=ProXG-LivingRm UNIFIdeviceModel=USW-Pro-XG-8-PoE UNIFIdeviceIp=192.168.1.49 UNIFIdeviceVersion=7.4.1 UNIFIconnectedToDeviceName=ProMax24-Office UNIFIconnectedToDevicePort=25 UNIFIconnectedToDeviceIp=192.168.1.95 UNIFIconnectedToDeviceMac=f4:e2:c6:ad:8f:08 UNIFIconnectedToDeviceModel=USW-Pro-Max-24-PoE UNIFIconnectedToDeviceVersion=7.4.1 UNIFIreference=https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/7258465146519 UNIFIutcTime=2026-05-06T21:16:55.073Z msg=ProXG-LivingRm went offline.

Sometimes it'll be days between these disconnect events, sometimes hours - like twice in the middle of the same streaming show.

Usually, when it fails again, I'll just switch back to the previous switch port that it was connected to the last time it failed, and everything will be fine.

At first I thought it was something Netflix related, but it's happen watching Netflix, YouTube, and other services/apps in the AppleTV.

I did verify the priority setting on everyone of the network devices/switches. No conflicts.

This is the only device on my network that seems to be having issues. My network is 100% Ubiquiti devices. No WiFi issues. No issues with any other wired devices.
