Mono and World's End Girlfriend - Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain (2005)
I bought this CD 17 years ago on a trip to the US (I'm Asian). It was a time in which I was starting to get into post rock. One of my favorite post rock bands whose myspace page I regularly visited was Mono.
And so I was excited to see that Mono and World's End Girlfriend album on the shelf of a record shop in California (in Berkley if I'm not mistaken).
I remember going back to my country, excited to give it a listen, and then felt a bit disappointed. I more or less liked the atmosphere (and I liked Trailer 3), but I couldn't help thinking if I should have gotten a more "normal" Mono album. I guess I was hoping for more electric guitars and the heavy climaxes Mono is known for.
Fast forward to 2026. I had a long drive and decided to listen to this album again. What an experience. It was only then that I realized what a gorgeous album it is. It's the kind where you just have to listen in stillness and allow the music to penetrate your heart.
What do you guys think about this album?
