kristeva — GLORY (new music; post rock, post metal, screamo)

Hi again, to everyone on r/postrock

kristeva didn’t want to wait too long to drop after the last one….so we got some new music ready to go, with only a year and sone change since our self-titled.

For those who know us, this is by far the angriest, most desperate piece of music we’ve put out to date.

For those new to us, we are a post-whatever band that has dabbled with screamo, emo, slowcore, and black metal in the past. This release finds us leaning into heavier music influences, embracing our love for bands like Warning, Neurosis, Agriculture, Bell Witch, etc.

If that pitch at all interests you, you can listen to our new release on basically any streaming platform, or you can give it a peep over on our bandcamp page.

kristeva — GLORY (bandcamp link)

Thanks to everyone who has listened to us in the past, and thanks to those of you who give this one a shot.

I know I speak for everyone in the band when I say that i’m so grateful to have music to share and people to share it with.

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts, and hope to see you all at a show soon

-Sam (kristeva)

The Evpatoria Report - Golevka (Any recommendations?)

Hi everyone, I recently discovered “Golevka” by The Evpatoria Report. The music just touched my soul and won’t let go, it’s simply an unforgettable experience. Does anyone have any recommendations for something similar, or just some good music in the same spirit that you’d like to recommend? Thanks in advance.

Concept album reccomendations?

For a college project i am analysing the ability of instrumental music to convey a narrative story. I wanted to look at some post rock albums as ive enjoyed most of it ive tried and i know its mostly instrumental. Open to any style so long as it has no/very minimal vocals and a clear story
Thanks!

Do Make Say Think - You You’re a History in Rust ( GIVE ME RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE + Appreciation post)

I have been a post rock fan for a while but about 6 months ago first started listening to DMST and they have ruined my ability to listen to any other post rock groups. I need any and all recommendations for bands that are as inspiring as them. Particularly post rock with incredible percussion, multi instrumentalist without wall of noise, and super engaging song writing. My favorite project is You You’re a History in Rust, so anything with that sort of folky twang is appreciated.
This band doesn’t get nearly enough love, and blows almost every other act out of the water from a compositional stand point. Lay your recommendations on me!

Moonlit Sailor - Waiting For Nothing

So many band we love of this genre.

I'd say post rockers are more passionate about the music they love than any other genre, because (mostly) instrumental music is one that takes a certain level of introspection, depth, and philosophy on not just a worldly basis, but transcends the cosmos and the universe itself to other dimensions or parallels.

We all feel it when we listen.

This is Moonlit Sailor. Of ALL the post rock bands we can name and post, none has more consistently been involved in my life since I first heard them than Moonlit Sailor.

Hailing from Borås, Sweden, these 4 musicians put out 4 albums - each album a titan in post rock, though mentioned so much less than the major ones we always find here.

On May 8, 2017, drummer Adam Törnblad tragically lost his battle with depression and passed away.

Some of you know, some of you don't, he was also the drummer for U137 (another incredible post rock band) and Sons of London (literally amazing pop punk revivalish sound I've heard)

Adam shared those two bands with guitarist, Oscar Gullbrandsen. Also the guitarist of Moonlit Sailor.

I messaged Oscar by email after Adam had passed. Explaining how heartbroken I was to know a person who was part of a band that saved me from my own drowning depression, lost his battle to his own. Oscar messaged me back with a reply that still to this day makes me cry looking back on it.

Anyways, I wanted them to get some love here, as I'm just re listening to their albums and how amazing literally EVERY song is.

Thanks for reading. Enjoy.

Prog influenced Post Rock

Long time post rock listener, I recently did a Slint deep dive and I loved the odd some signatures and other almost prog nuances of Spiderland.
It got me thinking, is there a band with some prog, or even jazz (but not just in the drums) influenced sound that is more modern than Slint while still staying somewhat atmospheric?
I guess Tortoise has some stuff that is like that but… more?

Looking for recommendations

Looking for more artists with a similar vibe to:

  • If these trees could talk
  • Sleep makes waves
  • God is an Astronaut
  • Explosions in the Sky

Have been looking into:

  • hubris
  • Caspian
  • Endless Dive
  • Silent Island

and dig em so far, but continuously on the hunt for new sounds. I play and record post rock - type music as a hobby and am always looking for new influences.

For context, looking for strictly instrumental groups- don't care for singing or vocals, just straight instrumental story telling, but really dig space vibes, sonic landscapes and ambient texturing. Whatever you got- I'd love to take a listen.
