1986 pipe lagging, is it asbestos?

1986 pipe lagging, is it asbestos?

This is under the floor of my 100 year old house, the system was I think installed in mid/late 80s when the house extension was done. Could this be asbestos?

500k pension milestone achieved!

Hi all, 42m here. I don't have anyone else to tell but I'm going to have a quiet celebratory beer tonight. About a year ago I was sitting watching wondering if my pension would ever topple the £400k figure, now I've reached 507.917k in such a short space of time it's such a weird feeling. Record market gains has really accelerated growth this year and my bonus sacrifice this month tipped it over the edge.

No doubt the bubble will pop Monday and I'll be back down to 350 again 🙂

Thanks for all the help and support of this sub, you're a great community and I've learnt a huge amount from quietly lurking in the background.

Please help me understand my 1987 solid floor construction and DPC/DPM?

Hi all, could someone please help me understand my floor construction and dpc/dpm configuration? Is it standard, "good enough" for a property of this age?

This is an extension built in 1987, we bought the house couple years ago and found a leak under the floor this year (copper pipe in screed). We're getting all the underfloor pipework replaced next month, and a new kitchen installed.

In the meantime I'm trying to understand the floor construction and dpm/dpc layers to check if it is done right/good enough.

Layers from top down (from my zero knowledge perspective)

50mm screed

Clear plastic sheet below screed - not attached to wall, not sure if just covers pipes or across the whole floor...

Pipe work

Dpc - dpc ends 115mm from wall

Solid floor, not sure concrete or hardcore?

??? No idea what's further below, but can see what appears to be another DPC outside, approx 200mm below the other visible one. Is there likely to be another dpm at this level??

Two photos are attached, inside and outside view

Other than the leaking pipe we haven't noticed any damp issues, but we've only been here a couple years. I just want to make sure what we have is "sound" before we go to the expense of putting a whole new kitchen in on top of it. We don't really have the money to dig out and replace the whole floor but I'd try to find a way if deemed absolutely necessary. Getting conflicting information from builders so keen to check the hive mind...

Thank you!
