Anyone else keep their home text-free? No visible words, logos, or packaging

I have a preference and I'm curious if others share it or if there's a name for it.

I like having no visible text in my house. No books left in sight (or just a meaningful one), no brand names or logos on appliances, no product packaging on display. Anything with words on it either gets stored away or debranded.

It's more about the visual quiet. Text pulls at my attention, books especially. So a room with no words in it just feels calmer to me, and I find deep focus much easier to reach there, for creative work.

Is this a thing for anyone else? And is there an actual term for this?

Deciding whether to discard a late ex-wife's letters I don't have the heart to read

I'm thinking about throwing out a box of handwritten letters and physical photographs from my late ex-wife. I don't have the heart to open the box and go through the letters and photos, and I really don't believe I ever will. I don't have anywhere to keep the box outside my home.

Has anyone been through something similar with heavy sentimental items, and how do you feel about it now?

Anyone strap/velcro-mount a power bank directly onto their Elektron gear?

I'd like to run a Tonverk off a USB-C power bank when out in the garden but would rather not have a loose cable + bank flopping around separately from the unit.

Curious if anyone's attached a power bank to the device itself (Velcro, silicone strap, bracket, etc) so it travels as one piece rather than three loose things

Photos welcome :)

First-time garden snail rescue

We're in the middle of a heatwave here. I went to close a shutter I don't usually close and found a garden snail behind it, it must have been there in 40°C heat for days or weeks. I didn't want to leave it out in direct sun, so I moved it, expecting to find it dried out and empty. Instead, it was sealed up and had some weight to it. I think unsealed snails can get attacked and eaten by ants, and there's also a toad nearby that snacks on snails at night, I can hear it happening. So I decided to bring it home

After 4 days, she woke up and ate a super tiny bit of food, then went back to sleep for 2 days. Now she's starting to wake up every night very briefly. She still seems a bit sluggish, with low antennae, but improving. I'll release her once the heatwave passes

I used soil from a flower pot, making sure it was free of organisms, and dampened it with a water spray using mineral water. I added a piece of wood (also slightly dampened) and some dry leaves, which she seems to like sleeping under

For food, I'm giving her banana (only occasionally), zucchini boiled in mineral water, lettuce, raw cucumber, and sweet potato boiled in mineral water.

I wanted to share the setup and get some feedback. Am I missing anything, food-wise or setup-wise?

What does ambient-related music do to you, emotionally or physically? And how do you think it does that?

I've noticed certain music puts me in a strong powerful grounded, present-moment state. A lot of ambient does this, I find the same quality in other places too, like shakuhachi, viola da gamba, some classical and slowed-down classical...

What's interesting and intriguing to me still, after so many years of experiencing and exploring this artform, is the contradictions in it:

It's a bath of sound that somehow fills silence with something silence-like present, making no demands. So it's both really here and not here at once. It ends up both silencing... and filling (the silence doesn't feel as empty/heavy). Not a lot to anticipate, it's fully here all at once. Or unfolding so slowly that it slows my chasing-brain-down.

Emotionally, it makes me miss people I had or have in my life or even miss them while I'm with them. Not in a sad way, like it pulls a kind of tenderness forward, an appreciation, a gratefulness with the imperfect instant.

It also makes loneliness feel more acute but in a way that's poetic and meaningful, rather than something to numb or distract from. Something just worth just welcoming and sitting in.
It's powerful, especially in contrast with the world we live in.

Curious whatever shape it takes for you, and what is it about ambient-related music that evokes this, you think?

Complete beginner, advice needed on a used 7-string viol deal

Bit of a lucky find, there's a 7-string viol for sale and I'm tempted. It's a bit far but doable, and I'm a complete beginner so I'd love some input.

It's a Chinese student instrument from 2024, barely played, gut frets. Seller tells me "No cracks, the bridge stands fairly straight. Case included in the price. Bow in good condition I think."

Asking price is €2100. My gut says that's steep for a factory viol what do you think?
Thanks for any opinion.

Digitone II, Chord Memory Learn: are chord sets saved independently from projects and how many sets can you store?

I don't have a DN2 to check and I'm trying to understand exactly how Chord Memory Learn works on the Digitone II.

When I create and save a set of chords using Chord Memory Learn, are the chord sets saved globally independently from projects? I hope the custom chords sets are available from anywhere.

How many chords sets can you create?

Can anyone help identify what's happening here?

I spotted this 2 butterflies (Cleopatra butterfly?) on an olive tree and managed to catch it on video.
https://streamable.com/o2q8go

There seems to be a structure on the branch. Is it a chrysalis and this is eclosion? Or is it laying eggs? Or could this actually be a mating encounter? Would love to know, I'm not a pro.

Carving one-shots out of long samples, is this practical on Tonverk?

Seriously considering picking one up.

I work a lot with long recordings, around one-minute files and I want to pull short individual hits out of them.

Tonverk doesn't seem to have a slicer, so the approach would be manually setting start/end points in Single Player, which is fine.

- Is scrubbing through a long file to find a specific hit actually usable, or is it a pain without a waveform zoom?

- Can you load the same file across multiple Subtracks with different start/end points to build a kit from a single wav?

- Can you destructively crop/export a trimmed region as its own file on the SD card, or is the start/end point just a playback setting that leaves the original untouched?"

- Is this a workflow people use, or is it easier to pre-chop on the computer first?

Tracker Mini. How many stereo samples can you fit per project?

Looking at picking up a Tracker Mini and trying to wrap my head around the sample memory limits before I commit. From what I could find:

The sample pool is ~350 seconds in stereo (or has that changed?)
There's a hard cap of 48 instrument slots per project

So for short samples (~6s) you'd hit the 48 slot limit before the memory limit.
For longer samples (30–60s) the 350s budget becomes a real issue, looking at maybe 5–10 long samples per project :/

My use case would be loading longer 30–60s samples to slice or extract segments from. Trimming on-device sounds doable but I wonder how practical it is on the Mini with long waveforms

Coming from the M8 and finding it too fiddly, the Tracker Mini's size and layout seems more up my street but don't want to juggle with sample memory. the M8 didn't really have that kind of limitations.

Thanks for any help 😄

Did Watts ever talk about Jainism

Has Alan Watts ever mentioned Jainism in any lecture or writing? The ideas feel too aligned with what he kept returning to, like the impossibility of fixing truth in a single proposition, for him to have entirely missed Jainism. But I can't find much. Maybe it wasn't all translated or available at the time.
Any known references, even passing ones?

Surpris.

Curieux d'avoir vos avis
