Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly at Riveredge Nature Center

Last week during the heat wave I ventured out in search of my favorite butterfly. I’ve had luck in the past at Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg, WI. I eventually found a couple, with one being very accommodating. It let take as many photos as I wanted. I even left it in search of other subjects and it was still there where I left it an hour later. Absolutely gorgeous butterfly.

Tiger Swallowtail in my garden this morning.. Finally!!

I’ve been building up a native garden for these guys for 3 years and hadn’t seen one or caterpillars yet. I finally got him today!

What instar are these?

I’m wondering if they will cocoon soon. They have eaten almost my entire parsley plant in my raised garden bed outside.

I saw this magnificient creature in my garden in Nantes, France. I think is a Iphiclides podalirius (Flambé), am I correct ?

Very hard to take it in picture, that's why I only have this one.

black swallowtail emerged during a huge storm this morning (ontario, canada)

i was worried his chrysalis was going to get knocked off the planter by the intense rain but he made it and it was a lovely surprise to find him drying out as i left for work :-) been watching a group of them on one of my dill plants outside the last little bit and hoping i'd get to see at least one of them hatch
