Seeking Layout Advice!

Hello! We are building a 10'x20' greenhouse and are at the stage when we are deciding on the layout for our raised beds. We are debating between doing 6 square beds that are 4'x4', giving us 2' walkways and spaces for pots and benches, or doing two long 20'x3' beds, leaving us a big 4' middle aisle. We will be primarily planting vegetables in here, as well as doing some veggie starts in the spring for our big garden.

We are also open to other suggestions for layouts for a greenhouse this size! Thank you in advance!

Looking for paved trails to ride my e-bike

Just got a new e-trike and want to do some long rides, but I'm terrified of biking on the street around here, as well as on unpaved trails. Aside from Carrier Park or the RAD greenways, are there any other safe, paved places to ride a few miles in Buncombe County?

Very defensive hive in WNC

Our hives are about 25 feet outside our front door, and close to our flower beds, chicken coop and pond. For the first year, we have a really defensive hive that sends guards out when we are just existing in our yard- not in the apiary or touching the hives. Both yesterday and today my husband and I got stung by bees who got stuck in our hair, and when we are doing general yardwork or spending time with our chickens, we have bees flying close to our faces, to the point that it is interfering with our enjoyment of our yard.

Would you:
a) just deal with it

b) requeen this hive with a gentler queen

c) move the hives to a new location (this is challenging because of access to power for our bear fence)

d) another idea we dont have yet?

What’s wrong with her ankle?

Anyone know what’s going on with her ankle and if there’s anything I need to do for it? She seems to be walking just fine on it but she does lift it sometimes.

Integrating different age pullets

Hello! We have an existing flock of 5 adult hens, who just moved into a large coop. These hens free range during the day. We also just picked up 6 pullets from a local farm, who are currently living in their old coop connected to a run. These pullets are all different ages, from 6 weeks to 11 weeks old.

We are going to keep them separated for a minimum of 2 weeks, and are wondering about integrating after that point. The older pullets will be around 13 weeks old then and should be fine to free range and be with the other girls, but should we continue to keep the youngest ones separate for a little longer? Or is 8 weeks old enough to integrate to the larger flock and free range them?

Eglu Pro- how many hens?

We have a flock of 5 hens who fit comfortably in our homemade coop, but chicken math happened and I want more hens!

I’m looking at the Eglu Pro and it seems to have great reviews here. But I also know these manufacturers often exaggerate about the number of hens that can fit in the coop, so I’m curious for those that have an Eglu Pro- how many hens do you have in it?

And, if you could do it again, would you buy the Eglu Pro or do something different?

Hello! We have our first broody chicken, and I am wondering how long I should give it until I call it and put her in a crate for broody jail?

She started going broody about a week ago, I have been removing her from the nesting boxes regularly, and actually closing all of the chickens out of the coop once they’ve laid their morning eggs. She is still being broody, though, sitting in the run and not moving much during the day unless I grab her. And at night, she sleeps in the nesting box.

How long should I give it until I call it and put her in a crate?
