I never thought i'd have to ask strangers for support. Severe depression left me unable to work, and I'm trying to rebuild my life

Hi everyone,

I'm Tejeswar, 27, an entrepreneur from Visakhapatnam, India. I'm currently recovering from severe depression and undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Edit: I’ve added some additional context below to clarify my situation, particularly why I’m currently unable to work and what the ₹5 lakh fundraiser is intended to support. I’ve also included supporting documents for anyone who would like to understand or verify my situation. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read, ask questions or offer suggestions. 🙏

This started around December 2024, and at first I genuinely didn't understand what was happening to me. My mood, productivity, routines, meetings and ability to function gradually collapsed. Over time, the condition became much more severe. I faced profound psychomotor retardation, making it a massive physical and mental struggle just to get up or communicate. Severe executive dysfunction crippled my ability to concentrate, make decisions, and execute the basic tasks I desperately wanted to do.

Ultimately, this caused a complete functional impairment in my daily life. After struggling in this state for a year, I required emergency psychiatric hospitalization and got admitted for intensive treatment at Cadabams, Bangalore.

I want to clarify something important: I didn't stop working by choice. At my worst, I desperately wanted to work, but I simply wasn't functioning well enough to do it, and was experiencing a profound loss of functional ability that made it phisically and mentally impossible. Losing the capacity to work was one of the most painful parts of this illness, especially because building businesses from scratch has always been a core part of my identity, and proof of my ability to execute.

After almost 1.5 years of being unable to work consistently, my savings were exhausted. My major hospitalisation and treatment were covered by insurance, thankfully., but insurance couldn't replace the income I lost during that period (which is very crucial for me and my family survival).

My sister is currently the only earning member of our family and supports my parents and me. She's done everything she can, but carrying the household while I recover has become extremely difficult.

Priot to this illness, i was financially independent, earning my own living and building things. My current situation is the result of being unable to work for a prolonged period (more than 1.5 years). I'm not looking for someone to carry me permanently, nor am I asking for a handout to fund personal spending. I am seeking a temporary helping hand, a support - a bridge to give me the breathing room required to fully recover my faculties, rebuild my momentum, and safely transition back into launching and running business operations while i get back on my feet rebuilding.

I am raising ₹5 lakh strictly as a temporary recovery and livelihood bridge, not as a hospital bill or ₹1.25 lakh/month personal spending/lifestyle. This amount will cover the heavy financial strain built up from a prolonged absence of income: essential living expenses, ongoing psychiatric care and medication, transportation, and relieving the intense pressure on my family, while I recover sufficiently in full prime shape and get back to work.

Currently, i'm recovering and things have been getting better slowly. While my recovery is moving in a positive direction, rushing back into high-stress environments prematurely creates a very high risk of clinical relapse. Based on medical guidance, I need a stable, risk-mitigated window of 4 to 6 months to solidify my health. This structured pause ensures I return in true fighting shape, fully equipped to handle work responsibilities and scale businesses sustainably without backward steps.

I am attaching my fundraiser link here, and i sincerely request you to please check and support my journey to recovery. If you can contribute, even a small amount would genuinely help me recover and rebuild myself to get back on my feet. If you can't, sharing this with someone who may be able to help would mean a lot.

Please consider supporting my recovery journey from severe depression and help me rebuild my life 🙏

Hello r/Gorakhpur Community ,

My name is Tejeswar Pasumarthy, a 27-year-old entrepreneur from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. I am currently undergoing treatment and recovery for severe depression and related mental health challenges.

Because of my condition, I have had to step away from work, resulting in a loss of income and the exhaustion of my savings. I am raising ₹5 lakh to manage essential expenses for the next 3–4 months, including rent, food, medications, psychiatric consultations, transportation, and other recovery-related needs.

I am sharing this fundraiser in the hope that the community can support me through this difficult period. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference in my recovery. If you are unable to donate, sharing this post with others would also be greatly appreciated.
