My brother is getting his PhD and I want to get him something for the occasion. He is very outdoorsy, does ski touring, hiking, bouldering, climbing, mountain biking, likes to travel, likes good quality stuff, good quality food, is a decent cook, is currently between jobs and between homes. Is not sure where life will take him next.

My thoughts so far are a nice watch or a really good Swiss Army knife. I'd love to invite him on a weekend trip but there's no chance I can get away from the kids for a weekend. Any other ideas are much appreciated.

ETA budget can be between a few hundreds to $2000 for the right gift.

I'm a bit in a cooking slump. I need to plan about 10 family meals per week. My 8 month old thinks pureed food is for babies which he thinks he clearly isn't, and wants to eat stuff for big kids. Simultaneously my 2 y/o stopped eating pasta. Luckily she does eat lots of raw veggies (phew! at least there's that) and almost all cooked veg, breaded fish filet, rice, risotto, eggs, edamame, wraps if we're lucky, hummus, and beans. Unfortunately, she doesn't eat bread, potatoes, or meat and now pasta. Aside from sushi and risotto I struggle to think of decent balanced meals to make from all that. Any ideas are welcome with special thanks for meals from which I can derive some finger food for the baby (no salt, no sugar, no dairy).

Jetzt aber d Erkenntnis, do ide Schwiiz und in Süddütschland schiint das nöd recht z funktioniere. Mir chönd nöd eifach losfahre und denke, wenn de ersti Platz volle isch gömmer halt zum zweite. Underdesse hend mir zwei Chind (6 Mt. und 2 Jährig) und sind nüme ide Laag ganz so unplant underwegs zsii. Wie mached das anderi? Gohts würkli nöd ohni früeh zbueche? Ich weiss, Nomady isch recht toll, aber au döt sind d Plätz mit sanitäre Alage begrenzt (mir hend nur es Bett und e Chuchi im Kofferruum, chönd also nöd eifach no irgendwo es port a poti inestelle).
