What are your thoughts on the election in Brazil, who do you want to win?

The electon is between the current president Lula and Bolsonaro's son.

Currently, it seems neck and neck.

I personally have not been following it and no nothing more than who it is between.

Why do you think the "trad wife lifestyle" has became more popular recently? Thoughts on it in general?

There is certainly a more visible presence of this online, but maybe that can simply be attributed to how anything that is both cultural and controversial gets attention.

Or alternatively, maybe there is real cultural shift occurring, maybe there is a real work burnout, or a desire for a more traditional approach, maybe a feeling of distrust/unease with daycares, etc...

What do you think, is there actually a growing trend, what's causing it and what do you think of it in general?

As petty shop lifting soars, what's the solution?

In the UK, shoplifting has more than doubled, up 126% in the last 5 years.

This is largely driven by petty shop lifting, people grabbing a sausage roll, or a coke from a shop and running. Sometimes a organised gang of people do this.

Realistically, the police don't have the time to track down an unidentified person who nicked a £1.35 sausage roll... but it's doubling, and no solution.

Previously, I suspect we just had a culture controlled this.

How should the US respond to the UK restricting trade with new Israeli settlements?

The UK is announcing new trade restrictions targeting goods and services from new Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, but no sanctions against Israel itself.

As a response, the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, said British businesses could face sanctions/bans from some American states.

What do you think of this development?

  • Should the UK restrict trade with these Israeli settlements?
  • Should the US care
  • Should the US impose restrictions/bans on British businesses in return?

Should religious schools be allowed to require a dress code, such as a Catholic convent with a veil/head scarf requirement, or a Muslim school with a hijab?

Personally I'm a big fan of parents and communities being able to have schools the way they want them. If parents want to send their children to a Muslim school, then that's their choice. If parents want to send their children to a convent school, then that's their choice, etc..

However I seen an interesting news story that some of the dress codes that Muslim schools have include the hijab.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08/31/muslim-school-barnet-hill-academy-wear-hijabs-state-funded/

Personally I'm conflicted, I'm a big fan of school choice, but what happens if there is no other school nearby and one student isn't Muslim... I'm leaning towards it being fine.

What would happen if Teddy Roosevelt entered the GOP today?

He's somewhat of an outsider compared to many past Republican candidates, nonetheless a favourite to many, and imo probably one of the best.

Would there be space for him amongst voters today, would he be loved, or would he be rejected?

Should immigrants be expected to assimilate, or should immigration be limited to cultures that can coexist without assimilation?

When I look around, there are plenty of examples of groups keeping a pretty distinct culture rather than fully assimilating. In the UK/Ireland, Irish Travellers for example often live in separate communities and have their own schools. From my understanding, in the US, Italian and Irish immigrants formed their own communities and neighbourhoods, Chinese immigrants formed Chinatowns, etc..

Do you think immigrants should be expected/required to assimilate, or is it reasonable for them to maintain a separate culture and community?

Personally, I don't think immigrants should have to abandon their culture. They should be free to form their own communities, neighbourhoods, even schools if they see fit. But if we accept that this is a possibility, that should potentially be taken into account when deciding what kind of immigration we accept. What do you think?

What are your thoughts on payday loans?

Short term high interest loans, are they predatory and should be tightly regulated, or a useful service that should be largely unregulated?

How did Lucifer convince other angels to reject God and join him?

This is one area that confuses me, Lucifer believed he was better than God, but it wasn't just him who became corrupted, he convinced 1/3rd of angels....

That doesn't make a lot of sense? Why would 1/3rd of angels have an issue with God?

I don't mean this disrespectfully but I don't understand it.

Do you say anything to politicians when you run into them in public?

I recently saw two big name politicians who's names would be known in the UK, one buying wrapping paper, and today another at my local grocery store... I didn't talk to either, if/when you see politicians in daily life, do you talk to them?

Do you feel you live in a "high trust" community or country?

For example, I'm confident I can leave my house and car unlocked for the next year and nothing would happen.

If I go to get petrol, no shops require me to "pre pay". I first top up, and then I pay whatever the meter says.

If I go for a drive, I'll see boxes of eggs, potatoes, etc... with a money box. If you want, you can take some, and put the suggested money in the box without it being stolen.

If selling on Facebook market place, I can say, I'm heading out, the item is sitting the in front garden, feel free to take it and leave the money in the letterbox. No one will steal the item, and I'm confident they'll pay the money.

Personally, I think my community or local area is high trust, but not the country as a whole. I'm certain places such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, etc... aren't the same.

Do you think the average person is aware of how much tax they pay, and should it be more visible?

For example, an annual letter showing how much you paid in income tax, payroll taxes, National Insurance, property tax, car tax, etc..

The information is already there, but I'd guess most people have no idea how much tax they actually pay in total. I know I don't. I never look at my payslip, I just see the money hit my account each month.

Would people think differently about taxes and government spending if everyone got a simple yearly summary, or would it make no difference? Would this be too much bureaucracy for a non problem, or maybe a better solution exists?

What are your thoughts on Thatcher's miner crisis? (Her most controversial policy)

In short, a lot of the coal mines weren't making money. It cost more to dig the coal out than it could be sold for, so the government was subsidising them to stay open.

Thatcher came in and basically said this is insane, the government shouldn't keep paying to prop up loss making mines, they can close if they have to.

The problem was, there were entire towns built around these mines, with most households relying on them... mass unemployment and social unrest followed.

Was she right? Wrong? What would have been a better approach? Today she is still known for this in the UK and one of the, if not the, main reason the left hates/hated her.

Nigel Farage has resigned as an MP over political spending & transparency issues, triggering a new election for his constituency in which he will run again, thoughts?

Essentially there has been some questionable donations and spending issues.

As a result, he has voluntarily resigned, triggering an election in his constituency, and has asked for the public to be the judge, saying he still wants to be their MP, so if they'll have him, it's up to them to vote for him again.

Imo, Farage is a bit of a slimy character but this is the right approach in politics, give the power back to the people and let them be the judge.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cn0v9l9x0g8t

It's arguably also very smart politics, assuming he gets re-elected.

  • It gets the attention away Burman (the soon to be new PM) and back on Farage
  • If shines a spotlight on, Burman will become PM without a national election, Farage can say he isn't scared of elections, why is Burman?
  • It means the likely guilt can be ignored, Farage can say he got the public to have their say so the issue is settled.

Why has anxiety became such a common problem today?

In the UK, 1 in 10 children are now referred to the NHS for mental health services, with the main reason being "anxiety"

Why is this growing? For adults, the cost of living, the expectation/almost requirement that both parents work, the uncertainty about the value of their education and career prospects, etc... exist but for children, none of that really applies, so maybe there is something deeper / more widespread. As a society, it seems people are just becoming more and more anxious? What's going on?

How important are birth rates in the geopolitics of the future?

It seems governments today are very much focused on GDP growth and defence spending, yet arguably, in a couple of generations, that is all irrelevant if the birth rates plummet?

For example, Nigeria, one country in Africa, has a higher birth rate than China, Russia and all of Europe combined.

So when we think of the power dynamics in geopolitics, is it not inevitable that places like Europe will decline whilst places like Nigeria rise?
