Fire damage, flood damage, mysterious stains, unexplained noises from the basement, previous owner refuses to leave the attic. I’ve seen it all.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Johnny Knoxville announced today that he is running for Mayor of Knoxville, launching a campaign built around a simple message: “Knoxville for Knoxville.” Knoxville, a Knoxville native who has spent more than 25 years building a career around ambitious ideas, questionable judgment, and a remarkable tolerance for pain, said he believes that experience has uniquely prepared him to lead his hometown. “I love Knoxville, and I think Knoxville deserves a mayor who understands Knoxville,” Knoxville said. “That’s why I’m asking the people of Knoxville to vote Knoxville for Knoxville.”

Knoxville, whose professional career has included being launched from cannons, attacked by bulls and repeatedly injured for entertainment, said his administration would never expose residents to anything unnecessarily dangerous. The campaign will operate under the slogan “Knoxville’s Big Adventure,” with a broader governing philosophy summarized as “Pranks. Pain. Progress.” Knoxville said voters can expect unconventional ideas, hands-on leadership and a willingness to take risks other candidates might avoid. He concluded that portion of the announcement with one final promise: “Make Knoxville Dangerous Again.”

The campaign will focus on what Knoxville describes as “bold leadership, questionable judgment,” with an emphasis on making local government more accessible, less predictable and significantly more entertaining. Additional policy proposals will be released in the coming weeks, but Knoxville said his approach to governing will draw heavily on lessons learned throughout his professional career. “I’ve spent most of my adult life taking bad ideas, putting a group of people together and seeing what happens,” Knoxville said. “I don’t see why municipal government should be any different.” He added that his larger goal is straightforward: “A More Fun Knoxville.”

Knoxville said his administration would take a hands-on approach to some of the city’s most persistent challenges, including traffic, potholes, housing, development and managing the city’s continued growth. He also suggested that some traditional approaches to city planning may need to be reconsidered. “I actually think we could use a few more ramps, skate parks and places for parkour,” Knoxville said.
