Are there any innovations in the world of shoulder rests that I should know about?

Hi, I’m coming back to playing the violin after a long hiatus and struggling a bit with my setup.

For some reason, when I was younger, I played without a shoulder rest and this was never a problem, but now when I try to do it it’s extremely painful.

After much trial and error I finally managed to set up my traditional shoulder rest (came with my instrument) in a comfortable position, but it keeps falling off while I’m playing. I’ve had enough!

Does anyone have a not terrible shoulder rest that they recommend? Maybe there’s been some miraculous inventions while I’ve been away? My neck is a bit long so I need something that gives me height so I’m not scrunching my instrument.

If it’s relevant, my skill level is probably college level but not quite pro - I could have gone to a conservatory but I had to take time off for medical issues (unrelated to violin) right when I graduated high school, so now I’m trying to catch up. I’m open to pricier equipment as long as it’s good quality.

Are you an indie filmmaker who released a feature in 2023-2025? I need to interview you for school!

Hi, I’m an MFA student at UCLA film school who needs to interview an indie filmmaker for an assignment in my Indie Producing class. I’ve emailed a bunch of people so far and no one wants to talk to me, so I’m reaching out to Reddit to see if anyone is available.

It would be a zoom or phone interview prior to May 29th — but I’m flexible, however please know the paper/presentation is due June 4th.

Basically, we would go over the process of how the film was made and financed.

Criteria for this assignment:
- Your film should have had theatrical distribution, but a teeny tiny limited release still totally counts. (Even one single theater!)
- You can be from any country but your film should have screened in the US at some point.
- I love horror and sci-fi the most, but I’m down to talk about literally anything. Also, if you’re a creator with a marginalized background or have a film with a unique cultural story, please don’t be afraid to reach out!

The benefits to yourself:

  1. I will watch your film before our interview
  2. Free advertising for your film with a bunch of college kids who love films, and may also watch your film after I present my report
  3. Our professor is an actual producer who works in the industry and he may also watch your film

Please help me or I’m gonna bomb my easy A filler class 🙏😭 Thank you!!
