Question regarding a conversation

My post got removed for character title in the tittle so I repost it changed here

So I have a question about krull and kruppe conversation in gardens of the moon that related to the book

In context that question came to me when i was reading the encounter munug has with the crippled god,
The connections i have maid is that I remember krull and kruppe having a conversation about him and the warrens tho the context and the exact conversation are a bit vague in my memory

I also like how the book is going so far there is a lot of introductions like draconnus, dragnipur (recontext), the one who has fallen, that are explain pretty quickly and so far the pace of this one is better compared to the first two

The excitement was too strong

This morning I finished deadhouse gates, and post about it,
Thought I will wait, but I kept thinking all day long
- while I was reading some Greg Egan short stories - about the ending and I really wanted to wait, but I don’t think I can

The excitement I feel is something I didn’t felt in a long time, maybe since reading the whole dark tower this year I mean I did read the first 4 volumes of that series mutiple times before reading the last three, but that is to say that I will start memories of ice tonight,

And yes I will have tissues with me haha, ready to cry the Jhagra til sea,

To end this post I would like you to see the differences in size between the mass market paperback in French and the trade paperpack,
I will read the mass market one, they are pretty solid on the glue with thin pages but I can’t bear to tear that beautiful trade paperback up, plus the book is 1,5kg so my hand is gonna die if I do

First watcher

Just finished the film 10 minutes ago.
I don’t get why I waited for years to watch this,
I love scifi I pretty much read a lot of it, some Philip k dick, some Asimov, liu cixin and other stuff like Greg Egan.

What bothers me about this film is the critic people made of it, it had me waiting years and years before giving it a go,

On a first watch I don’t think this movie is difficult to comprehend, not at all, maybe I will be downvoted to hell for this but maybe it’s because of the background reading I had with the genre before I watched it that made the movie more understandable,

Personally I think it’s a great movie, and my oh my Pattinson is good in this, I’ve not been so interested in a film from Nolan like this since interstellar

I’m about to lose it

I took a one week break in the middle of deadhouse gates and I’m almost done with no tears left in my eyes,
All the pain I had to go through at the begining was worth it,
But I will wait before I read Memories of ice.

A rant about the quality of paper

It really saddens me that most mass market paperbacks in France have a poor paper quality,
I bought some of these less than 3 years ago
My appartement is ventilated everyday, my books are Some times against the wall or in a book shelf but with place for them to get air, so no direct contact. I don’t mind books aging that’s life, but for my money to see this It makes me sad
Big format paperback in France or hardcovers don’t have this issue it’s mostly on the small mass market ones,

See for yourself

Struggling with Deadhouse Gates

So a few days ago I made a post about this but wanted to come back with more context

In struggling with the book for a few reasons, one is that the different povs seems too far apart from one another I’m maybe before part 3 and have take a few breaks on a chapter with the historian,

Another issue I have is that the core theme seems to focus on a crew with a good balance between their storyline but the breaking of the chapters makes it hard to stay invested in each different storyline,

Third issue is that I don’t understand any of the battle scene where I’m at I can’t follow the what is happening,

I’m debating taking a few days or wewks break after part 2 to let the book and myself breath
Because I actually like what I’m reading but compare to gardens of the moon I don’t love it,

Any thoughts ?

Reading time

So I posted a few days ago that I started malazan
I liked very much garden of the moon and as maybe many of you after the first volume I find DG more fluid.

I feel like this one is more heavy on subject matters and I started it right after GOTM and now I find myself tired by the traumatic depictions on the first quarter,

I’m wondering if me struggling all my life with mental health affects my reading, and yes I do want to continue but don’t want to be disgusted and “power through”,

How did you approach this if any of you have and what would you recommend for me to still enjoy the series ?

Take care.

Starting Malazan

So, I started in French malazan a week ago, I’m not an avid epic fantasy reader I must say besides lord of the rings, farseer first trilogy, earthsea, and the dark tower and a lot of pratchett I tried fantasy before but not this genre

I remember triying to get into it a few years back and I lost interest soon after starting it, maybe I was not ready at the time

Now I can comfort myself knowing I’m halfway book 1, I’m taking my Time,
But I was triying to come up with a few questions and just one remained,

We have a wiki translated in French, but it can’t compare to the English one, so do you have any advice on how to remember events or even names and character connections ?
I myself don’t usually write about books I’m reading but I hesitate for this series, because I know I’m not able to retain almost 10 000 pages of information
And plus the index helps but sometimes I’m so focused I usually forgot to look at it

I’m open to any tips or advice or experience you r/Malazan have to share

I’m leaving you with the French edition paperback and size market paperbacks to have look at

Coming back again

It’s been a month since i took a Stephen King break after doing 2 years almost of chronological order leaving one or too for later
After the dark tower everything in the later books fell flat for me
Bill Hodges trilogy was fine but overall the pacing was all over the god damn place
The outsider was good
11/22/63 was okay on a reread but i had a better time reading it when i was a teen

But now i want to get back at it again and i will leave holly for later because this book is pretty much a recap for the first few hundred pages

So I ask you, do I go on a reread session or with something new post tower ?

Long days and pleasant nights

Returning

After a short break reading some Becky chambers which took me a week to finish the first book I’m returning to discworld with Pyramids
I thought it was pretty good occasion to show you some exclusives pieces of collectibles from the French publishers

Questions about hardcovers

Hello to you all,

So I’ve noticed this on my hardcovers
I live in a country where they aren’t produced very often either for a collector edition or for dark romance and fantasy of today,
I’ve noticed that on many of the ones I’ve I always seem to have this crease, any of you think it’s normal wear ?
Thanks in advance

Rincewind & plot

I have seen many opinions about this character here some love him, and some don’t.

I sit in the middle, the character is interesting, I just finished sourcery, and he had his moments, where I could feel the emotions, I could feel the intent of pratchett behind him, a mockery to the outside world but a hero on the inside.

The world denies the possibility for him to be what he truly wants but he still try anyway and still believe, that said what I don’t particularly like is the plot surrounding him.

I liked Color of magic and light fantastic and even to some extent sourcery, pratchett has books with quality even when I don’t vibe with it, they are it’s still engaging and thrilling,
But the plot surrounding the Rincewind I feel, is always chaotic like, color of magic was scattered and dense but I could still follow, light fantastic was a fluid mess but a good one, but sourcery was pure chaos,

If that’s the intent tell me, because I don’t want to judge my enjoyment of something, based on just my thoughts, if the destiny of rincewind is always to run away from something it’s okay, but I was not prepared to have a character that I have soft spot for, but at the same time also getting detached from him because the story feels like a rollercoster,
I don’t have any problem with equal rites or mort or Wyrd sister that I just started after sourcery, so I don’t know

About sourcery

So I’m on the fifth installment in two weeks and still enjoy it and the humour but I think sourcery reads too much like light fantastic
I’m not finished with the book but the premise and the strings of events seems too similar
Still like Conina, and just met Nigel
Love seeing the unseen university and having more added on the magic system and the hypocrisy of mages
But it’s the first time the story feels off for me

La rh me demande mon numéro numen

Bonjour,

Some questions about the extended books

Hello to you all,

I have a question regarding some the extended books of discworld

So I have the science of discworld which I know take place after the last continent, but I do know if they spoil any of the other books,

The archives of ankh Morpok seems like an anthology encyclopedia but when do you think it’s good to read it ?

The world of poo and guide of mrs Bradshaw also seem odd and I don’t know where to intercalate them

And the map, the atlas and the companion book seems fine to take a peak at but I will wait before triying to read them because I imagine it’s best to have read the whole discworld before

The biography by Wilkins I will save for last 😁

Equal rites

So after reading color of magic and then light fantastic I knew i was in love with the world and the humor of terry pratchett and then came this one
The way he return the trope of the male hero and give so much care into he’s female character make me love him even more
I feel from this book and forward terry has my heart for good, what felt chaotic feels more grounded here, still some comedic jokes here and there but this one feels really real
Greetings to you all

Hello to you all, I bought all discworld novels and some related books plus children’s collection of pratchett works
It took me months of deliberation but I’m starting in chronological order tonight
Thanks to this sub for comforting me into starting the series
I’m reading in French
