I have 2 outdoor cameras (1 broken), doorbell camera, smart hub, and several door/window sensors that have been sitting on Facebook Marketplace for months, with me decreasing the price several times. No one wants to buy them, and I'm starting to think they'll just end up in the garbage.
Is there a better way to sell them, or donate them?
TL;DR: Ants love paper.
Like most of you here, I grew up on Calvin and Hobbes, and owned every individual book published. In 2022, I had packed up everything and moved from Texas to Washington State. I put all my childhood stuff in a big cardboard box, including yearbooks, collectibles, knick knacks, and my beloved Calvin and Hobbes books. This box was placed on an upper shelf in an outdoor shed for safe keeping.
Some of those knick knacks included old, unique soda cans and bottles (think drinks from foreign countries and other things an 11 year old would find cool). I don't know why I never threw these away, but they've been with me this far in life, so why not throw them in the box? Unfortunately, they must not have been washed well, and still had residual drink in them. You can probably see where this is going...
When we moved again in 2025, I took the box down from the shed and discovered that those cans were the ultimate attraction to a local ant colony, who made their home right there among my childhood memories for 3 years. Did you know ants pee and poop? I did not. Nearly everything in the box was destroyed, soaked in ant...juice...covered in eggs, and partially eaten by the swarm. This included my beloved Calvin and Hobbes books.
I had to throw nearly everything away, only able to keep my 2nd grade yearbook and Yukon Ho! I'm more devastated about the C&H books than anything else, even though they can be replaced. I was excited to read these to my future kids, or show my fiancee what I grew up reading. I'm sure they'll be easy to find again, and I'll probably find the collection on sale one day...but they won't be the same books I had from when I was a kid.
There's no real point to this post, other than to vent a bit. I love this subreddit, and hope we're soon able to share C&H comics again. It made my day to open reddit and see a few strips that reminded me of simpler times. Hope everyone here has a great day...and don't store your books outside next to a bunch of old sugar.
New to investing, and want to buy more MU (as everyone does). Are we still expecting an adjustment down to ~$550, or is it just a good bet to buy anyway?
