Is anyone else frustrated with PSA's eBay Consignment payout process?
I've got a 100% eBay account with multiple positive feedback ratings, and I've now used PSA's eBay consignment service three times.
My first sale was a card worth over $1,000. It sat there for an entire week, only for PSA to tell me the buyer never paid. By then, I'd already lost valuable time while the market kept moving.
I relisted the exact same card, and it eventually sold again—but this time for ~$800. You do the math.
On my second experience, I waited 4 days with nothing but "payment processing" before I finally received an email confirming the buyer had paid. I'm still waiting for the payout to hit my account through Stripe.
Now I'm on my third sale, and most valuable yet. Once again, I'm stuck in limbo because all the status says is "payment processing." I have no idea if the buyer has actually paid, if PSA is waiting on something, if Stripe is the hold-up, or if everything is fine and I just have to wait.
My biggest issue isn't even the payout speed—it's the complete lack of transparency.
Why am I sitting there for days wondering:
- Did the buyer actually pay?
- Is PSA waiting on the buyer?
- Is Stripe the issue?
- Is my payout delayed?
The Pokémon card market moves incredibly fast. Waiting a week to find out a buyer didn't pay, or several days just to learn that payment was finally received, can literally cost hundreds of dollars. In my case, it already has.
I understand fraud checks and payment processing. I don't expect instant payouts. But if PSA is going to be a serious consignment platform, they need to improve communication exactly how they do it through their grading "status" like:
- Buyer paid ->
- Payment settled ->
- Payout processing ->
- Funds sent
That would eliminate so much uncertainty.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with PSA eBay consignment? Is this just how the service works, or have I been unusually unlucky? I'd gladly pay a premium for certainty of execution. Right now, I'm paying the premium without getting the certainty.
