1 month old kitten needs amputation
I’m hoping someone here has been through something like this and can offer any advice/words of comfort.
We have a 1 month old baby that we just found last week. He had a dead back leg that he was dragging around. After a couple days of back and forth vet visits and a trip to the cat ER, our vet told us it would need amputated.
He is currently too little for surgery and our vet assured us that he would be okay to wait for a few weeks. He’s on painkillers and antibiotics. She did tell us the leg would change color, shrivel, and might even fall off (AHHHHH), etc. and it has changed.… but i find that every time something new happens with the leg im booking another appointment, panicking, calling the emergency clinic, etc.
I won’t post photos of his nasty little foot, but it is black, hard, and shriveled like the described. Every day it seems to change. Peeling, etc.
Has anyone else had to go through this? Waiting for weeks with the injured leg before amputation? Finding a surgeon for a kitten so young?
If you have a success story for a kitten who went through this please share it so I can stop freaking out about this :,).
