Cancelled FET :( and it's all my fault

This morning was meant to be our transfer of one of our two remaining viable embryos.

An hour before I was meant to be at the clinic, I realized that I only had one day of pills (doxy, medrol) left instead of two.

Immediately my mind started to reel - did I start my progesterone one day early too - and sure enough, I looked back at the calendar and saw that I was supposed to start PIO on Sunday 7/19, and I distinctly remember hustling to get my first shot done right on time before taking my daughter to her swim class. On Saturday, 7/18.

I whiffed it by exactly 24 hours. I immediately called the clinic, and they were able to hit pause in time before the embryo was unfrozen. I talked to my nurse, and she confirmed that we'll have to start the whole 8-week cycle, beginning with suppression, again. I am still waiting to find out if I'll have to pay for a whole new cycle, even though we didn't complete it.

Just so many hard feelings this morning. Mad at myself for the mistake and just fully feeling the weight of the pressure that we all take onto ourselves to be perfect, behave perfectly, take all the supplements, do all the acupuncture, never miss a beat. For now, I'm just trying to accept what I can't change and move ahead. Thought I would share in case anyone else has been here or is going through FET prep right now too.

Next time she posts a "What's up????" question box

Can someone please ask what age she's going to let Tate have her own Instagram? Because if the answer is NEVER!! then why are you putting her there now?

Leuprolide acetate support circle

I'm on day 10 of taking shots of 20 IU daily for endo suppression before an upcoming FET and yesterday the side effects hit me like a wrecking ball! I've been doing pretty well until now, but the body aches are unreal, and I feel so gross. My normal dose of ibuprofen was not really touching it either. Who else is in this boat? Would love to commiserate.

Best restaurants for celebrations?!

Hi Austin food people! I moved here in 2005, and maybe BECAUSE I've lived here so long, I can feel uninspired about the restaurant scene. My husband and I are in a new phase of life as first-time parents with a toddler, and what works best for us now are no-brainers with zero decision fatigue.

With that in mind, I'm looking for contenders for the top spot in a category I want to call our "always" spot for celebrations. A place to return for birthdays, good news, and other milestones.

I have probably eaten at hundreds of Austin spots over my two decades and have dutifully saved them to my Google Maps (pandemic hobby lol), but when I think about this question, I come up empty.

Here are some constraints:

  1. I hate paying more than $100 pp for a meal. It just FEELS wrong.

  2. Doesn't need to be kid-oriented, but should be a place where people would not be appalled to see a child.

  3. We live down by Wm Cannon/Mopac, so anything above 45th Street is out of the question.

  4. Needs to be able to accommodate a group of up to 8 people and make a reservation.

  5. IMO French food (aside from patisserie) is extremely overrated.

Also, not a big fan of MML and the ...Caucasity they bring to everything they do. I often feel disappointed by the actual food at the darlings of the food scene (Suerte, Este, Odd Duck, Sway, Justine's, Birdie's), but I enjoy and appreciate their emphasis on ambiance.

The places in Austin that I appreciate the most are those affordable, reliable standards — Cabo Bob's, P Terry's, Jade Restaurant for dim sum, Bouldin Creek Cafe, Casper Fermentables, Fresa's — but they're more like everyday spots than I would want for this top pick.

Slightlyyy fancier places that are also on my good side: Salt Trader's Coastal Kitchen, Hopfield's, Nixta, Dovetail Pizza, Lenoir, Kiin Di, MezzeMe, Fixe Southern House come to mind.

I know this all sounds really picky and annoying.

What am I missing??? Please help me out with some ideas (or tell me to STFU and cook my own food), open to all feedback. TIA

Retail Therapy During IVF

Just wondering if anyone else finds themselves coping by shopping more than usual. I just started my medicated cycle for an upcoming FET (fingers and toes crossed) and so far I've treated myself to new bras, underwear, some fragrances, and even a cute box for my meds and needles. Please tell me I'm not alone!! And that we deserve it :)

First of all, I love Dr. Becky and am slightly surprised that she went on their show. Naturally both hosts showed up with their signature “just fell off a turnip truck” mindset and neither of them seemed genuinely familiar with her work—they just know she’s popular and that’s all that matters.

Anyways, the part that broke my heart a little and I had to stop listening is when Harrison was sharing how he feels Tate is soooo communicative because “last night at dinner she was eating with her hands and then she ran over to the cutlery drawer and was banging on it. Like she wanted her fork and spoon.”

I’m sorry…. WHAT????? Why are you still making her eat with just her hands? Why wouldn’t you just naturally offer those things to her?

This story is just reaffirming that not only are they not even trying to anticipate her wishes or read her more subtle cues, she’s having to demand for her basic needs to be met.

I have a kid slightly younger than Tate, which is how I got drawn into their content, and I can’t understand their lack of curiosity towards learning how to be parents. You don’t need to be an expert on parenting, you need to be an expert on YOUR child. That they have not managed that in a year and a half, I find a little distressing and highly ironic given that’s their income scheme as well.

Maybe their hearts are in the right place but I don’t know how this gets better with two kids unless they start taking this stuff seriously and stop relying on Chat and social media comments to guide their parenting.

Yall please tell me if I’m off the mark here.
