1911 Adjustable Sights

I’ve always been a Trijicon HD guy, at least on striker-fired pistols, but I’ve been seeing some interesting adjustable sight options for my SR1911. Does anyone have thoughts on going adjustable vs. fixed on a 1911?

By and large, I grew up being taught that adjustable sights were unnecessary. As primarily a revolver fud, ramps have always been my thing.

Any insight would be appreciated. I’m new to the 1911 platform, but I have a sneaking suspicion this is going to become a HUGE money pit for me over the next few years.

Douglasville | Lee Road Expansion

Is anyone here intimately familiar with the Lee Road Expansion? Plans seem to have changed and I'm looking to see if anyone really knows what's going on.

I'm wanting to start doing some basic leatherwork. Could you all make some reccomendations on high quality tools to purchase? Basically, I want to start with simple folders, and bags. From there I will probably want to move into nicer stuff.

First, let me say thank you to all the reccomendations from my last post. This sub help helped me with my first 1911 purchase. I chose the SR1911, as my stainless workhorse. Got a great deal $600 (used, but in immaculate condition). Can't wait until it comes in.

Now for a few questions:

  1. I traditionally don't do many modifications to guns unless it's night sights, or some polishing for the trigger or better spring packages -- something like that. Is there anything that's is a common "need to be done" with the SR1911? I've been told that any modifications for 1911s need to be fitted professionally.

  2. Holsters: this is going to be a BIG fella to carry regularly. I'm no stranger to carrying bigger guns regularly. I tend to swap back and forth between an 3" SP101 and a full size Glock 41 (alien gear holster). I don't carry the G41 often but it does come out of the safe from time to time. With my sp101, I've had mediocre success with Galco, they're okay, but in my experience they wear out and have always had limited options for my SP101. I love my Mernickle, but they're pretty expensive. I'm okay paying, I've just never carried something so big that I want to carry regularly. Weight, length of barrel are all a concern. I've got great belts so I'm not worried about sage. I just don't want to go through 5 holsters before I have something that works well for something so big. Any suggestions?
