RB5009UG+S+in does not turn on?

Hey guys,

Ordered my first ever mikrotik router (RB5009UG+S+in) from Amazon and after a week, it finally arrived today.

I plug it in, doesnt turn on. Maybe a dumb question, but I should see some LEDs turn on once plugged in right? Nothing special I need to do?

I tried other outlets, same thing.

I figured I’d got a dud…dissapointed I may need to wait another week for a replacement…

FAANG job without degree

So I’m a lead data scientist (L6 equivalent in Google) at a large (60k + employees, 20B+ revenue) tech company. I’m about to pick up principal (L8 equivalent) later this year.

I’m not a data scientist though. HR had to give me the same title as everyone else on my team who actually is one. I went to school for pre-law and didn’t even finish my degree. I just got here by being at the same company for almost 11 years starting out as a technician as a way to not be homeless while going to college and 11 years later, through networking and offers to come work for leaders I’ve met through various meetings and stuff, I’m where I am now.

Even though my title is currently a data scientist, I was hired more for my expertise of our technology having field experience while everyone else on my team knows actual software development (most of my team is more software engineers than data scientists - again HR weirdness).

I don’t really know how to code well. When I git hired as a senior engineer 4+ years ago, I got annoyed at dev teams taking too long to do simple requests for us like bringing in more data so I started teaching myself SQL. Then when my old team got an aws account, I asked to have a slice of the budget and started teaching myself ETL and learned pretty well how to use Glue for ETLs and ended up making a now critical application the company relies on that has grown to an actual team (I’m not on that team anymore but proud to have started it).

So TLDR; 15 years total work experience, 11 years with the company, 2 years as a senior engineer, 1 year as a lead engineer, 2 years as a lead data scientists (these are all titles, not my actual job function) and soon to pick up principal later this year. No degree and not a real developer. Very proficient in SQL. I AI my way through any intermediate Python I need to do (previously stack overflow and google lol) but have a small understanding of it without AI. Some AWS knowledge. These days on my current team, I mainly act as the SME and do discovery work and architect how the data should all connect with each other before it gets handed off to the actual dev team to build. I know I kinda had a unicorn job history getting to where I am. Everyone else on my team has patents, PHDs, masters, etc.

Realistically, can I land a job at FAANG or equivalent with my resume and what level? Asking because they need me to relocate for work and I can’t so I may need to think next steps. TIA

Best setup for on prem backend

Hey all,
Please point me to somewhere else if this isn’t the right sub or flair.

There’s a few apps I have running on prem and on aws. For cost purposes, I’d like to do an architecture where it is hybrid on prem on my home servers (have 3 but they’re all behind a nat) and aws.

API calls and websocket will be too costly for me to have everything on aws so I was thinking an architecture where aws would handle the front end, domain, and maybe routing? On prem would be the backend and database

Maybe something where users hit my websites, front end loads crom aws, aws routes them to a server with some type of load balancing, then the connection persists during the session between the client and my on prem servers.

Is what I’m describing ideal? Any suggestions? What services should I use and how should I design this?

Thanks!

Can’t trade

Hey guys,

Since last Thursday I’m getting an error when I try to place a trade saying funds have not settled yet? I’m a bit confused as to why since I always trade on margin and my account is margin and I have over the PDT amount. My buying power looks health too in the 5 figures

Then today I got around this error by placing a limit. However when I went to sell spy with a market order, my order was stuck on open. What is going on?

Are we all priced out unless we are DINKs?

Hey Guys,

Native New Yorker here, moved away when I was 10 in the early 2000s. I moved back to New York 3 years ago and lived with a few roommates. I have my own apartment now but the lease ends end of June and my issue with this place is its just too far (east Flatbush).

I've been trying to search basically all of the city below 130th st, LIC, Greenpoint, Wiliamsburg, Park slope, fort Greene, prospect heights, Clinton hill, downtown Brooklyn, etc basically places closer to the city or in the city and I'm having such a hard time finding a place now vs a couple years ago when I looked. Besides location, I want a W/D in unit (understood that's harder to find, current place has it) and a one bedroom. My issue is I've raised my budget to 3500 and for the great place, im willing to go $4000. That seemed not crazy a couple years ago but im having a hard time finding anything right now. Is there anything anyone recommends besides street easy? How do people find these gem of a place nice rent stabilized places lol
