Klunkpacking

Took the ‘52 Schwinn out this weekend for a great 50 mile overnight trip. Handled it like a champ. I really wanted to make my own frame bag for the tank area but I’m such a sewing noob that I failed miserably and just had to make what I already have work. Everything turned out alright 🙂

$2 Auction Mystery Bike - Schwinn!

I posted the other day about this red bike I won in an auction lot for $2. Picked it up earlier today and based on the serial (looks like B35207) it looks like an early 50s? Schwinn. Seems to fall in line with the 1952 serial number chart but I’m not 100% sure. The chain guard looks a bit like a Spitfire one to me but I’m not a Schwinn expert. Everything came off pretty smoothly besides the stem wedge. It’s stuck in there pretty bad even after beating on the stem bolt with my brass hammer a bunch. I’m letting it sit with some kroil in there overnight and will try again in the morning.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my original thread about the bike. Excited to klunk it out!

Any ID on this red bike I won at auction?

Okay so I tried asking r/Vintage_bicycles but it was mostly people just saying I wasted money ($2 btw lol) so I figured I’d ask y’all since we’re more like-minded. This red bike is really intriguing me. Looking at the head tube welds it almost looks like Schwinn electroforging? Only odd thing is you can tell it doesn’t have the typical Schwinn kickstand mount. It’s probably not pre war since it doesn’t have rear facing dropouts and looks like it has normal chainring teeth pitch. Other than that I have no idea. Anyone have any ideas? I don’t pick it up until Saturday so otherwise I just have to wait until then. And yeah I know the fork is bent

Varsity Klunker

Something a lil different. 26 inch wheels and some heavy steel moto bars. Put on a NOS 5 speed Suntour freewheel I found at a yard sale for $3

Old advertising Zippo with 3 digit phone number

Won this old guy in a lot of 6 lighters for $3 at an auction. It was missing the hinge pin but luckily everything was there. I found that a small, cut down finishing brad works great as a hinge pin. It also needed the old flint cleared out. One new flint and some lighter fluid later and it works like a charm.

I’m not entirely sure of the year. I’m assuming late 40s - early 50s based on the bottom + the phone number? I don’t know too much about old Zippos. I just think old lighters are neat
