So I graduated in 2024 from a masters in art & animation. At the time I thought this would lead me to figure out my life and goals, but trying to find a position in the creative industry as a vfx lighting artist for 2025 was just dust.

Nor did I want to pursue as a visual artist despite that being a more stronger portfolio since I realised it would burn me out immensely for such a creative tuned role.

I managed to get lucky with different jobs in retail just for income, and now if everything goes okay, will be landing a steady office full time job (80k + super) by the end of this month.

However this makes me wonder if I should pursue my passion in creative work through indie / freelance by applying for projects and working on them after my 9-5. Or just stick around and build my portfolio to retry my luck with the creative industry again when my portfolio is stronger. However I’m not certain if I want to handle the salary difference, but I am aware I would have to start somewhere if I have 0 professional experience in the vfx industry.

I am 25, so idk if I should just ride the wave with office job and climb the corporate ladder to invest a bit of expendable income into creating my own indie studio in the future, or pursue the vfx industry at a later stage of my life.
