My first journal I made! I saw this leather and fell in love but only saw a5 trifolds on Etsy and I wanted an a6 bifold 🤣
Eyelets may be a bit uneven but hopefully not too noticeable 😅 the only downside side is I got so excited about everything else I forgot to grab a6 inserts.
Hey all,
I’m going to be making an A6 size refillable journal. The leather is on the way (2.0mm thick, veg tanned) and I have pretty much everything I need except now I’m not sure what the finishing touches in terms of the edges would be?
Do I have to bevel the edges (also, is 2mm too thin?)
Or, do I burnish them? I’ve heard good things about tokonole; if I get that do I need the wood tool too? I’ve seen videos with the tool and also fabric?
Or, would I do both? If so, what’s the order?
At this time, I’m only planning on this one cover. If it goes well, maybe one for a friend as well. So I don’t necessarily need or want to go all out, but I would like a nice finished project.
Thank you!
Pictures 1 and 2: I gave into the hype of making a notebook cover with a document pouch, so I figure why not make it lefty! (Inspired by my lefty field notes)
Its opens up on the right (therefore zipper storage is oriented that way) and I flipped around the A5 notebook so that I’ll be opening it that way as well.
I don’t normally write this way, but I wanted to give it a try. This one will be a commonplace journal, so it doesn’t need to read sequentially.
Picture 3: I haven’t read or seen OnePiece, but I thrifted this A6 cover (for obvious reasons that it was a 3.99 Hobonichi leather cover) Because I’m already using a Weeks, I didn’t need to use it as intended, so I transformed it into a cover for my lefty field notes. I didn’t have control over the orientation so it’s going to be a jumble of left to right and right to left, but that is the lefty world.
I know these seem like a hassle to some, but that’s what free will is for.
It comes with other items besides the beige Armand pillow 🤣
Where I live treats the water A LOT, so we end up having soft water (16ppm) I hear a lot about hard water and it’s difficulty, but tbh I don’t think my soft water is any better 😅
Does anyone else have this and have any tips or tricks?
For the record, I have long, thin, fine hair that is tangle prone no matter what. My roots tend to be oily, and ends dry.
