Payment surcharge for LCPS

I know this isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but this actually PMO.

Every fee on School Cash Online now has a 4% fee baked into it. In previous years, LCPS covered that fee.

I know there's a cost to accepting online payments, but I can't imagine the cost savings for not dealing with teachers/admins collecting checks, handling deposits and crediting the right student for that payment isnt worth 4% to the county.

I'll just dust off my checkbook and send the check in, but it seems really short sighted. Penny wise and pound foolish.

ETA: The 4% happens even for debit cards or an eCheck payment. The 4% is baked into the *cost*.

Korean food/groceries

Just got back from a 2 week trip to South Korea and our family still can't get enough of the cuisine. Stuff beyond the typical KBBQ. Loved every type of jjigae we had, the various types of kimchi and banchan, the mandu Jeongol we had... not a bad meal in 2 weeks.

In Ashburn and have access to Lotte which is great, but are there stores (maybe in Annandale) that have a better selection?

If anyone has any recommendations of restaurants (maybe where we can get a Hanjeongsik-type meal as opposed to KBBQ) that would be great.

Also would love to hear anyone's favorite store-bought kimchi brands. Havent found any I loved (the Lotte brand one is alright).

Booking Jumbo taxis in Busan?

Here now, and we were able to jumbo taxis in seoul (usually). Here in busan we waited for 15 minutes at the taxi stand and none showed up. Had to take two taxis.

I'm not seeing any options in Uber or k.ride (both at the airport.and since and no options to prebook). Are they just rarer here for some reason? Any trick to booking them? (Apparently hotel concierges can?)

Money/Payment advice

Coming to Korea (from the US) next week with my family of 5 next week for a 15 day trip. Super excited.

I'm trying to sort through the advice in terms of best way to handle money. I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve no FTF card which I normally use, and an ATM card that doen't charge fees. We'll be getting Tmoney cards after we get there to use transit.

I've seen reports that some vendors don't accept foreign credit cards. My card also is a signature card (no PIN). Never had problems in Europe before (although I've got a couple of strange looks when it went through without a PIN), but I'm hoping that's not a problem either.

I've seen some suggestions to get a Wow Pass, which I understand is a stored value card that can also be used for transportation. Is that still good advice this days?

We'll get cash when we're there for the obvious cash-heavy shopping/eating, but prefer to charge as much as we can.

Thanks!

Roaming experience in Korea?

All 3 networks say they roam in South Korea, but wondering if anyone had any real world experiences as to which network might have the best experience?

Thanks!

When did 1776 became known to be the founding of the country?

1776 is when the declaration of Independence was signed, but as united was lowercase it seems clear that the colonies still thought of themselves as independent. Between 1781 and 1787 the articles of confederation made the states a loose affiliation, more akin to the UN that a unified country. It wasn't until after the second continental Congress that one could legitamately at that we were THE United states.

Early on did the idea that we were "started" in 1776 present? Or was this something conjured up later, perhaps around 1876 and the so called centennial?

Mattress importance with adjustable base?

It seems to me that getting the exact right mattress is less important if you have an adjustable base? A mattress seems like its going to sleep different anyway if you have an adjustable base as opposed to a traditional one.

I get the argument that you still need it to be comfortable while lying flat. But I wonder if there's a law of diminishing returns on spending more on a mattress if you're going to adjust it anyway.

Those with adjustable bed frames, whats your experience?

Looking for mattress recommendations after narrowing down to a couple of models

Hello,

I am a side sleeper mostly and can sleep on most mattresses, definitely like firmer but I dont care that much. My wife? She says she wants a softer bed but with support. We've had memory foam mattresses for most of our marriage, but we're now in our 18th year and our bodies are just not the same. We got a new memory foam mattress (a Novaform from Costco, our previous one served us well for 10+ years) and she has complained about it the whole time.

I think it's clear that pure memory foam is out for us. We went to a couple of stores and based on what she says she likes, we have two top contenders:

Serta Perfect Sleeper X Max Plush and DreamCloud PressureSmart Plush

We are also leaning strongly into doing a split king adjustable bed setup.

Those two seem to have a couple of things in common: they are hybrid, soft/pillowy but has zoned support for her back.

Based on those two positive experiences for her, does that suggest any more models to look at? We have the typical mattress stores around us, but some of the specialty ones are a bit of a drive to do.

Has anyone had any experiences with these models that they care to share?

Thanks in advance. Dont want to be buying another mattress any time soon.
