Belgian single permit processing time for Ghent Uni postdoc

Hi everyone! I’m an Indian researcher joining Ghent University as a postdoc. My university’s ODIS office confirmed that my Single Permit application was officially submitted on 18 August 2026.
The process is now with the Belgian authorities: admissibility → work approval → Annex 46 (residence approval). ODIS mentions a general processing time of 10–120 days.
For anyone who recently went through the Single Permit process in Flanders, especially as a researcher/postdoc:

  1. How long did it take from submission to Annex 46?
  2. What were your submission and approval dates?

I’d really appreciate any recent experiences, as I’m trying to estimate when I can realistically travel to Ghent. Thanks!

How to approach in immoweb?

Hi. Greetings from India. I will be moving to Ghent for 2 years in early September for post doc in the Ghent Uni. I have checked the apartment/studio listing in Immoweb. I just want to ask is there any formal way to approach or schedule a viewing? Like do I need to send them a cover letter kinda thing and supporting financial statement etc ? I have rented place in UK but through relatives. I am new to Belgian rules and do not know much about the procedure. If you have any suggestions please drop it here. Thank you in anticipation.

Also congrats for defeating USA. I hope that your battle with Norway will be legendary.

Life @ Gent

Hi, I will be moving to Gent for 2-yr postdoc at the Gent University. My average net salary will be ~ € 3300/month. I am an Indian and I have stayed at London, Edinburgh and Taoyuan City previously. Went to Lyon and Paris. So Europe is not completely new to me while Belgium or Gent is !

Is there anyone here who would be kind enough to tell me how is life at Gent ? How much should I expect to spend monthly? Any idea of estimated monthly expenditure if I choose to live in a studio apartment? A break up of costs would be very helpful. What are some local attractions and cool places to visit and wind off ? Also please tell me more about Belgium and Gent that most websites do not mention explicitly but you think of them as extra perks or hidden treasures type.

Dank u wel!
