For those who got diagnosed later in life — why did you do it and was it worth it?

I have suspected neurospicy tendencies for a long time and am really wanting to confirm it through neuropsych testing. I discussed with my doctor who put in a referral. However, I’ve heard this can be quite expensive and insurance doesn’t always help. I feel like I have reasons to justify it — if not for peace of mind then to just finally understand myself better. I wondered what your takes are in one or all the areas:

  1. What pushed you to decide to get diagnosed?
  2. After everything is said and done - was it worth it?
  3. What was the cost?
  4. What type of test did you do? (I’d love to confirm or rule out both autism and ADHD — is this often done with one test? Or would it have to be multiple?

… Each state and facility seems to do it a bit different)

I would appreciate any insight you are comfortable sharing! ♥️

SO MANY SPAM CALLS

I had SO many spam calls coming from numbers in the 200’s (example: 317-201-4567; 317-202-4567; 317-203-4567) that I had to change my number recently.

I accidentally picked up one of their calls on my new number and fear I’ve just started the process over again on my now paid account.

Is there any way to stop what has begun? If I continue ignoring the bombardment of incoming calls, will it eventually die off?

Practicing Temporal Concepts

How do you all structure building a child’s understanding of temporal concepts (first, then, after, later, tomorrow), especially for those kiddos who are quick to react/become upset during transitions or expectations?

I always start with visuals and social stories in session but that is not always transferable to everyday activities in/outside of the home.

Just thought I’d pick your brains if you have found super successful strategies/methods!

Thank you!

LAMP WFL for GLP

I tend to recommend TD Snap for my GLP kids due to the ease of personalizing and quick fire/gestalt friendly pages; however, my new kiddo was given a school-based LAMP WFL device very recently.

Upon collaboration with his school SLP, he has been showing signs of interest in modeling with some use, which is awesome!! I’d love to continue growing his skills over the summer but need help from those more LAMP savvy:

- how do you go about customizing gestalts without impacting the motor planning? Or what is your go-to method for starting customizing/establishing interest/“buy in”? (Any screenshots of examples would be ideal!)

- do you feel that LAMP WFL meets your children’s needs across their language growth? (I’ve never had a long term LAMP user, so would love to hear how it evolves throughout the process - to a somewhat LAMP newbie, it seems so much more limiting than the other applications…but maybe that’s because I am still learning! Please help!)

- are there any free and parent friendly courses or resources for a family who is just now getting introduced to LAMP? All the ones I find online require them to have an account already created.

Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated!

Motivating language activities

What are your favorite language motivating/building activities for school aged children on the spectrum — specifically for those who appear to only like big squeezes/bubbles right now.

I am trying EVERYTHING to build engagement and rapport with a new friend but none of my typical sensory friendly go-to’s are working.

I would love any ideas to try!

Where to Start: Myo

Does anybody have recommendations for any evidence-backed, non-grifty trainings or resources to learn more about myofunctional therapy for speech?

Myo seems like one of those gray areas where there can be a lot of good or a lot of pseudo depending upon the sources.

Any insight or ideas would be helpful!

I’m working with a little bitty and am in need of some more ideas (preferably using everyday items so the family doesn’t have to buy additional items!) Any and all fan favorites would be appreciated! 🤗

Does anyone else ever gaslight themselves when diagnosing CAS? Like - I’ve done multiple trainings, I know the characteristics, I use dynamic assessments and differential diagnoses, etc. but I ALWAYS question myself at the finish line. I think I’m traumatized from grad school pushing how overly-diagnosed it is…and from getting patients who clearly DONT have CAS characteristics but come in with that diagnosis anyway. What’s the temperature of the room for everyone?
