Did the fireworks by the walkway over the Hudson go off tonight?

They sent us home saying there was damage to the walkway and heard people mumbling about them still setting off the fireworks anyway but wanted to see if anyone had firsthand info since the walkway didn’t clarify if they were rescheduled or not.

Intermediate books for developing on Violin?

I've read all the FAQs on getting a teacher and whatnot.

My background is that I'm music teacher, primarily a band guy who plays a lot of guitar as well. I've taken violin classes in the past, and we worked up to NYSSMA level 2, which is supposed to be like 5th/6th grade level- for reference, the Bach Minuets in Suzuki book 1 are level 2s. I've been teaching strings again after a while away from them.

Anyway, I'm doing fine with the kids, but I'd like to get better working on my own. I'm not a huge fan of the method books we use for the kids (Essential Elements) for a grown-up. Is there anything out there that’s good for adults to work at? I was a big fan of reading through the intermediate and advanced Rubank books for band instruments- is there anything like those for violin?

EDIT: I feel like from what I can see the "habits of a successful string musician" series might be what I'm looking for? Book 2 of the young one and the middle level one might be worth a look. I also see a book on shifting published by rubank that might also be worth a look.

Fun ad I got today

Would you let your kid learn baseball from him? And will he be in NY in August?

What's going on in Harriman State Park?

I commute on the Long Mountain Parkway and the last two days there's been police presence stopping cars so they can pull into some of the camping areas and there's signs up up labeled "TGOTW". Does anyone know what's up with this and also when it will stop so I can get back to leaving at my normal commuting time instead of getting held up every morning?

All season tire recommendations for a hybrid?

Hi all,

I have a 2025 Camry with 205/65R16 tires. I’m at almost 40k miles, and I’m probably looking at replacements within the next few months. I live in NY so I need all seasons, but I’m a teacher so if the snow is bad, I’m not driving anyway because school is closed.

My priorities-

Long tread life- as you can see, I’m putting on over 25k miles a year so tires I’d prefer tires that will last me a few years if the prices are close enough.

Low rolling resistance/eco-minded- I know it might mean slightly less performance but I’m trying to keep myself near that 50mpg mark I get right now. And let’s be real, it’s a Camry with 16s- I’m not doing “spirited driving” in this thing.

I don’t mind spending but I probably don’t want the most expensive tires either.

My preferred shop is a Goodyear guy but can get me whatever I ask for regardless.

Current tires- Firestone FT140

Ones I’m considering-

Continental TrueContact Tour 55- very well rated and 80k warranty

General Altimax RT45- seem well rated for the price and should last a while

Goodyear Assurance MaxLife 2- because my shop prefers them and may get me a better deal

Any opinions on those or other suggestions? Thank you!
