Quiz for my databases unit at uni has some familiar names and places in it
I've just been in europe for a month and left a friend caring for my boy, she said his legs were "really muddy and couldn't get clean". Upon getting back today they look like this - seems like typical keratosis you see in a lot of thoroughbreds but I've never seen it close to this bad.
Usually with other horses i just sponge and shampoo, chuck some white healer on and it stays ok through winter and immediately gets better come spring when the ground dries out.
However this has proper big scabs, and clumps that i can't tell if they're immovable accumulation of secretions or scabs, and I'm wondering if it's something I can/should do more for, call in the vet?
There's no open wounds and skin actually looks quite healthy where I can get it clear but I'm worried.
I come from Perth, Australia and it's kind of a bit shit as it's purely a hub and spoke model, so doesn't give many routing options on trains, and including buses it's kind of awkward setting rules to balance not being an obscene number of options but still enough.
However recently spent a fair bit of time in Singapore and Madrid, and both cities are excellent in that they have numerous high frequency routes that intersect at multiple points and loop, giving lots of stops and lots of ways to get there to easily run a great medium sized game just based on the rail system.
So what city or country would you say is perfect for each size of the home game with minimum prep work?
I work in sports, and this (rightly imo) requires absolutely everyone involved to hold a current WWCC because we're working with kids.
However each state has their own one, so as someone who volunteers across five states I currently hold 5 different wwcc. Now the duplication of effort to have had the same check done 5 times is silly as is, but even sillier is that I have to pay for these, even as a volunteer.
Now I'm doing this stuff multiple days per week all year round, so it's not a big deal. Where it becomes a problem is when I'm trying to put together a volunteer crew for events, asking them to spend half a day or even a full day helping put on fun events - I not only need them to do this, but also go into the post office during the limited hours they're open, spend half an hour there, and $10-20, just to help out for free.
The changes that need to happen:
One national check valid for all states and all workers. My volunteers, especially near places like Albury, do not need to be maintaining multiple of the same qualification. I do not need to be checking these against different databases for each state, and others again if they're a teacher or police officer.
Notification to organisations when a person's check is no longer valid. If they commit a violent crime or sexual assault, we need to know that ASAP, having the onus to be in clubs to manually check is not sufficient, I do it once a month, many clubs do it once a year, that's a long time that kids could be exposed to a risk known to the government before it's known to the club.
Free for volunteers. So many valuable services in this country from CFA to local sports to soup kitchens run mostly on people volunteering. It is an insult to have them pay for a piece of paper allowing them to do this. It's free in some states now and the world hasn't ended, make that unanimous for volunteering checks.
So anyway, I want to fix this in the next 10years, what other points do you think need to be added and who do you suggest I contact?
So far I'm in touch with Jessica Stojkovski and Department of communities, but this is a national issue being thrown across all states, so I'd like to attack it from all angles.
Friday and Saturday nights there was an accident blocking one lane, slowed down from 110 to about 60 to pass, got beeped and flashed.
Tonight coppers on an onramp, kept at 40 passing them, got beeped, flashed then tailgated for 5km including the cunt clipping me twice, the second which almost caused me to crash, before I could exit and escape (he could have at any point gone past in the mostly empty right lane after we passed the cops and sped up to 100).
What am I meant to do? 40 can be frustratingly slow, especially as on the ramp it was probably for 800m, but I'm scared to slow down even that much if this is the shit I have to deal with.
Also there's some mild damage to my rear bumper, anyone know if I can get the excess waived for this? I can't afford 2.5k right now for something minor and it's not my fault but I don't have any details on the guy other than silver Prado with a nudge bar.
I'm renting a room in a house with three others - each on a separate agreement which includes bills for reasonable use.
Our use I would say is very reasonable 150-180kwh in March, April and May, up to 220 in June presumably due to some people heating their rooms (there's no central heating but I believe everyone except me has a heater of some kind in their room), but then shot up to 1200kwh this month despite me not being at home until today after leaving end of June and having practically zero usage.
Landlord wants to charge for this extra usage which I, obviously not having a bar of, but just can't fathom using that much even running a heater 24/7?!
We launched our Parkrun recently and it's been going great, however as RD for next week I'm keeping an eye on emails and noticed that everyone is offering to do first timers - at least one person has requested it for each of the next 6 events - 12 requests in total!
However none of them have attended or been involved with our event (except possibly running at trials, idk everyone) , only one has ever done a first timers before, and two of them have <10 attendance days each.
In my mind the key function of a first timers welcome is to ensure that newcomers to parkrun and the course feel welcome, and that all their questions and concerns can be answered - which would include how parkrun works, barcodes, tokens, tailwalkers etc, and course and venue specific information, bathrooms, cafe, accessibility - ergo not someone relatively new to parkrun and definitely not someone who is visiting and has no ties to the area or event.
I'm fine putting them down for the event that I'm RD - we'll go through the full course brief there and there's likely going to be a lot of first timers to Parkrun as we've just started publicising it in the local community - but idk if it's appropriate for later weeks, especially with the volunteers who clearly are newish to parkrun themselves?
Has anyone else experienced this? Let me know your thoughts on whether we just take them for first timers or suggest another role or something else?
I'm a uni student and work three different casual jobs, and depending on the week will do as little as 10h@$30 and as much as 80h@$65+ depending on what my availability is around assessments and what is needed by my employers. However this leaves me in the situation where some fortnights I'm taxed as if I'm earning <10k, while others I'm taxed like I'm on 130k. In reality I'm usually earning about 45k, but due to this variance between weeks each year I'm tying up a lot of money in tax, this year my tax return is $4800 with only $400 in deductions, that is over 10% of my income that I'm not able to even earn interest on.
Knowing that I've overpaid substantially this year I've set my Centrelink tax deductions to 0 for the past three months, but even that doesn't fully rebalance it if I paid no tax on Centrelink income.
Any suggestions?
I started driving and bought myself a car 5years ago, and have been paying full comprehensive insurance the entire time because I need my car to work and live and don't want to be fucked over by an accident.
Yesterday I had my 2nd accident, first time being at fault (I backed into a parked car at work - I'm an idiot, and was exhausted after a 5am-1:30pm shift, and was on autopilot and didn't look before backing out - it's a no standing zone on a no through road so 99% of the time I would have had no consequences for that stupidity but it was not my lucky day).
Anyway go to make a claim and they tell me there's no policy for the vehicle - only for my bike and my renter's insurance. I trawl through my emails and sure enough I have a successful debit from March and confirmation of payment, but nothing from April and May. No warnings about failed debit or policy ending or anything else - I'm sure it was sent somehow but I haven't seen it and even trawling junk there's nothing.
The frustrating thing was they couldn't even tell me exactly when it lapsed or why it lapsed - my other two policies are still active with the same insurer. The only thing I can think is I had some fraudulent charges back in February and changed my card, but called them up and made sure my details were correct, and I'd imagine if there was an issue a) I wouldn't have been charged in March and b) they'd chase me up wanting my money.
I'm lucky that the damage to the other car is only scratches to the bullbar - though knowing my luck they'll charge $5000 to buy a new one, still a lot better than being in a proper accident uninsured. But for my car it's made dents in both back door, bumper and side panel as well as demolishing the tail light, which while all minor and drivable will be an expensive pain to fix, and despite paying the better part of $30k over the past few years to this company, they can just tell me to get fucked and not cover any of it.
So anyway that's fucked up my week and probably wiped out my last 6months of savings.
Has also been a good wake up call to quit said job because of my three jobs it's the shittest hours, longest commute and worst pay, and the only one that straight up cannot be got to by PT, so while I get my car repaired I can work my others at the cost of doubling travel time but can't get out there.
