Graviton Nomad - BDP S11

My custom spaceship Graviton Nomad is live on the Bricklink Designer Program. It’s swooshable and battle-tested by my eight-year-old daughter, with a full interior, play features, functional landing gear and retro computer stickers!

⭐ Let's make this a real Lego spaceship ⭐

PS: here's a video of me shaking it to prove how sturdy it is 😅

Graviton Nomad (original spaceship) & Artwork

The Graviton Nomad is an original LEGO spaceship I designed where the worldbuilding drove the build as much as the bricks did. The spaceship is swooshable and battle-tested by my eight-year-old daughter, with a full interior, play features, and functional landing gear. It's currently part of the Bricklink Designer Program Series 11 ⭐ an official LEGO competition where community-voted designs can become real sets. Voting is open May 11-25 (2026)

The visual style sits between cyberpunk and lived-in sci-fi: bold color blocking, visible mechanical details, and a fully accessible interior with cockpit, kitchen, beds, bathroom, and cargo hold. I wanted it to feel like a ship people actually work and live in.

The crew hints at a bigger story without spelling it out. Two human pilots with an adventurous look, two non-human companions in medieval-style clothing resembling Dune costumes, one carrying a weapon, the other a wand. They're hauling mysterious cargo. The spacesuits are repurposed LEGO firefighter suits, chosen for that utilitarian Expanse feel.

I also worked with some amazing artists to bring the world to life beyond bricks:

  • Darius Puia "BakaArts" (Instagram)
  • Amir Zand "amirzandartist" (Instagram/Artstation)
  • Kim Hu (Bluesky)
  • "shizumar" (Instagram)
  • "spacegoose" (Instagram/Artstation

Lego build technical specs:

Total parts: 1894
Weight: 1608g / 56.72oz
Dimensions (Width / Length / Height):
- cm: 27.7 / 45.3 / 9.9
- in: 10.9 / 17.8 / 3.9
- Lego studs: 34.7 / 56.6 / 12.3

Graviton Nomad - Original spaceship & artwork

Three months ago I shared how I used this community's "Getting Started" guide to give world-sense to my custom LEGO spaceship. The "Graviton Nomad" is now in the Bricklink Designer Program Series 11 and with enough support it could become a real LEGO set. But beyond the competition, the project has also grown beyond bricks.

I worked with artists to create artwork based on the Graviton Nomad and its crew, because I wanted to see what the world looks like outside the LEGO medium. The artists I had the pleasure to work with:

  • Darius Puia "BakaArts" (Instagram)
  • Amir Zand "amirzandartist" (Instagram/Artstation)
  • Kim Hu (Bluesky)
  • "shizumar" (Instagram)
  • "spacegoose" (Instagram/Artstation)

Seeing the ship and its characters interpreted by other people forced me to think about what the world actually looks like when it's not made of plastic. My brief to the artists was minimal: the color blocking, the grounded sci-fi aesthetic, the mix of utilitarian and lived-in. Keep the spaceship LEGO-style but feel free to make the characters non-LEGO. Beyond that, I simply let them bring their own vision to life.

What surprised me is how much the r/worldbuilding framework carried over. The core principles still applied: consider the audience, keep the lore open, develop a consistent world-sense, cut what doesn't fit. The artwork, despite the different art styles, didn't contradict the LEGO build. It expanded it while respecting the same rules.

Thanks again to this community for giving me the framework to think about all of this 🙏🧡
