Never hunted anything with Lance in my life, so I decided to solo Fatalis with it

Took 5 attempts, carted twice, killed him with 2 minutes left, needed fortify, dragonator, demon buffs, heavy artillery on the temporal mantle, the whole 9 yards, but I did it with pre-Fatalis gear and no weapon augments. Fight was sloppy as hell, but the way of the poke carried me through. The killshot was me going all “From Hell’s heart, I stab at thee!” and jamming my lance directly into Fatty’s chest while he was flying. Probably my most satisfying final blow all things considered.

I guess the point here is that if I can do it, you can do it. I didn’t use any advanced lance tech at all whatsoever. I just poked him a lot and hopped around a lot (actually I barely blocked at all because it’s against my Bow main programming, most of my damage avoidance was from I-framing and sheathing). I do have a lot of Fatty knowledge from many previous solo slays, but I am just not a skilled lancer, so if I can fell this slithering, fire puking a-hole, so can you.

Gunners, how did your first Alatreon solo go?

I’m very curious about other peoples’ experiences. It’s no secret that Alatreon’s ranged hitzones are quite poor to the point where you probably won’t struggle with the elemental check, but a new player will probably struggle to kill him before the fourth Escaton. My first slay was cartless, but I did it using the Alatreon bow since its element was high enough for me to make the check during dragon active. It took 35 minutes and 5 Escatons. Nowadays, I kill him consistently before the third Escaton, but I’m also using full Safi and Kjarr gear.

What spurred this question was me doing an experiment where I fought him only with pre-Alatreon update gear and no Safi pieces or Kjarr weapon. I did it with the Shrieking Legiana bow. I killed him before the mandatory Escaton cart, but I had to SWEAT. Wallbangs, dash juice, might buffs the whole time, eating for Attack up (L), super aggressive play, and I still almost didn’t make it. I’m not a speedrunner caliber player and there were some comfort skills I still could have dropped, but I’m over 150 slays deep on Alatreon and I can’t imagine doing this as a new player.

So how about you? What was it like for you hunters?

He went for a charged fireball and I did a focus strike expecting him to flinch.

He did not flinch.
