Open apex tooth + recommended root canal

Hello everyone, I thought I'd post this on here because I want insight on what is going on with my tooth.

I'm 17 and don't have any memory of trauma to my tooth. I've been referred to many different dentists offices and none of them said they could do the root canal. I was referred to a specialist and have an appointment next Thursday. It's tooth #4 and I've actually got a pocket of abcesss caused by it, about a week ago. My primary dentist popped it and prescribed antibiotics. The right side of my face got HUGE but the swelling eventually went down and it doesn't ache anymore, typically only when I chew.
I'd like some opinions from you guys so I can understand what is going on with my tooth. Is this something I should be concerned about? Will it be painful? What about healing?

Amoxicillin

I started taking amoxicillin 2 days ago for a tooth infection. The swelling didn't go down much so yesterday I went to the doctor and they put me on amoxicillin clavulanate. I took my first dosage of it last night and I woke up today with diarrhea. I've had to go 2 times already. The right side of my belly does feel a bit tight.

Is this normal? I do have health anxiety and anything abnormal freaks me out. I hate taking medications. I was supposed to take my 2nd dosage an hour ago but I've been feeling a bit nauseous, even drinking water.
