What's the biggest mistake homeowners make when choosing hardwood flooring?

I've been reading a lot about home renovations recently, and one thing that keeps coming up is how many people choose hardwood flooring based only on color.

From what I've learned, there are several other factors that matter just as much:

  • The type of wood (oak, maple, hickory, etc.)
  • Solid vs. engineered hardwood
  • The amount of foot traffic in your home
  • Moisture and humidity levels
  • The finish and long-term maintenance

A floor might look great in the showroom but perform very differently once it's installed in a busy household.

For those who have installed hardwood floors:

  • What wood species did you choose?
  • Would you make the same choice again?
  • Any lessons you wish you'd known before installing?

I'd love to hear everyone's experiences and recommendations.
