Rant... received patriarchal grapey book from mother as gift
My mother sent me "The Meaning of Marriage" couples devotional in the mail. It was a well meaning gift; she likes my husband (me being married is her biggest accomplishment and thing she's proud of, thank you Christian patriarchy). Anyways I flipped through some of it, and it's "complementarian" and has extremely misogynistic pieces that harm both husbands and wives in there. Additionally, you guessed it, the book normalizes grape (husband nEeDs 'sEx'). If I'm remembering correctly, it blames much on 'modern culture' and praises capitalism. This is ironic because a big part of why modern culture actually sucks in some ways is capitalism.. I'm just venting bc it's hard how other people have moms they can actually talk to and be comfortable around and my mom is sending me a book about how grape is okay (and I have been SA'd before, years ago). And yes, I'm sure she was aware of this Bs bc she believes in all of her conservative mega church's ways, including sexism, purity culture, anti-abortion, LGBTQIA+ hate, etc..... Anyways else get insane gifts??
