Slightly fried USB port, is it safe to pogo charge instead?

Picked up my Quest 3 at the weekend and it was only 35% charged, which was odd since it had been plugged in. Played a while until it died, plugged it in, no light on, I thought it might have been dead enough that it didn't have enough charge to wake up, so I left it a bit, and tried another cable which did charge briefly. I then noticed the USB plug felt warm, so I unplugged it, and I could smell a bit of smoke. There is no physical sign of any damage around the outside, or as far as I can see the inside of the port.

Obviously I haven't plugged it in again since then...

What I *have* done is bought a cheap refurbished pogo charger from eBay, which is due to be delivered imminently. The question is, if I don't use the USB socket, is it likely to be safe to keep using the headset for a while?

While I would miss it, I don't really use the Quest enough to justify buying a replacement, and it's well out of warranty. I was half-considering a Steam Frame, but who knows when that might be available and for how much!
