Montreal Victoire have won the Walter Cup!
The Montreal Victoire have become the first Canadian team (or, non-Minnesota Frost team) to win the Walter Cup with a 3-1 series win over the Ottawa Charge!
Marie-Philip Poulin is awarded the Ilana Kloss Trophy (MVP)
Manon Rhéaume named as the General Manager of PWHL Detroit
PWHL Detroit is the first out of the rumoured 2-4 expansion teams that will be announced throughout this month. The PWHL is rapidly expanding from 8 to 10-12 teams to “rip the bandaid” before letting the teams and fanbases stabilize for the next few years. The team’s colours are Black, Silver, White, with Red accents, and a heavy emphasis on motors and engine in their promotional material 👀
For speculation, the possible and rumoured expansion cities remaining include: Hamilton, Halifax, Quebec City, Calgary, Denver, Chicago, and Vegas. Edmonton is unfortunately reportedly out of the running in this wave of expansion because of disagreements with ownership.
Edit: Detroit will also be hosting the 2026 Entry draft!
Edit 2: Inaugural season Merch and Season tickets are out!
As a result of the Gold Plan + Tiebreaker rules, Montreal Victoire’s SO win over Seattle Torrent guarantees Vancouver Goldeneyes the 1OA pick.
Caroline Harvey is projected 1OA - a generational defender with an overall skill ceiling comparable to the likes of Marie-Philip Poulin and Hilary Knight.
Here’s hoping that the Canucks get lucky in the NHL draft!
Let’s assume the expansion draft rules are the same as last year, who do we keep?
I think the most ideal situation, is to protect Jaques, Masch, and ONE of Miller or Vanisova. And then try to re-sign Nurse, Gardiner, Thompson, Daniel, and Soupy’s contracts as they become FAs.
P.S. Thank you all for such a wonderful season :) Go Goldeneyes Go! 🦆
