In 2014, Sarah Ashman, the sister of theatre/Disney legend Howard Ashman, shared the tragic details of the very last time she saw her brother before he passed away from AIDS at just 40 in 1991. Howard was responsible for writing the lyrics to The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.

When people ask why Pride Month is important, this is why. So many queer icons were taken away from us much too early. Rest in Peace Howard.
