There is an event upcoming and I really wish to participate in it. The themes on which we can write papers are Financial Economics, and Developmental Economics. I know those are completly extreme, but since I have no prior experience, i cannot understand how should I proceed. I know Literature review is firstly very important, and then one needs to find a gap/ question that hasn't been answered yet, but that exactly is the problem. How does one find a gap? Especially when I am limited with how much I don't know yet.

So I would sincerely appreciate if anyone could mentor me

so the thing is, I joined this marketing consultancy startup some time back, and honestly I am the only person who is doing everything and all they say is "we'll help you this and that but nothing", literally everything, 1 month in , they don't even have any other intern ( just me ), they always keep on saying that we have meetings etc, yet no new hire, no clients till now either, their website which was supposed to be done by july also is not done. From copywriting, scripting, market research, campaigns, brand strategy, social media, optimisation, performance marketing, graphic designer, etc, I do everything

on top of all of this, this one founder has the audacity to also ask me to help him for his personal branding, like "make a deck and give me ideas" like are you for real, how do you deal with this?
